How to bet the Demoiselle Stakes

December 3rd, 2020

A fantastic field of eight 2-year-old fillies will go postward in Saturday’s $150,000 Demoiselle (G2) at Aqueduct. Scheduled post time for the 9TH is 3:44 p.m. (ET).

Demoiselle Contenders

#1 MALATHAAT -- Impressive daughter of Curlin is 2-for-2 following a facile score in the Tempted on the surface last time out. Pletcher pupil is bred to be great, and the filly should have more to offer while stretching out to two turns for the initial time. John Velazquez will ride the March foal.

#2 TRAFFIC LANE -- Second from the Pletcher shedrow graduated going two turns on the turf and will try graded company for the first time. Outwork filly has improved in each lifetime try to date, but she faces a tall task on Saturday in her stakes bow. Carmouche will be in the silks.

#3 MILLEFEUILLE -- Juddmonte homebred graduated in style in her second lifetime outing for Mott. Talented prospect came home swiftly at Belmont most recently, and she is cut out to thrive at distances similar to the 1 1/8 miles on Saturday. Win contender retains regular pilot Rosario.

#4 MALIBU CURL -- Chestnut daughter of Curlin was a convincing maiden winner at Saratoga second time out for Albertrani. Kentucky-bred has trained well in the interim, and she has longshot appeal under Junior Alvarado.

#5 DOLLAR MOUNTAIN -- Upstart filly rolled home in an off-the-turf affair at Belmont when earning a robust 102 Brisnet Late Pace number. Wildcard in the cast comes in fresh for her stakes debut beneath Lezcano.

#6 CAFE SOCIETY -- Empire Maker filly was a distant third in the Tempted, which followed a sharp debut tally for McGaughey. $475,000 juvenile buy is bred to run two turns, and I give her a top-three chance in her second stakes assignment. Jose Ortiz has the call.

#7 CARAMOCHA -- Friedman trainee takes a major class hike following a wire-to-wire sprint victory over state-bred foes on debut. $100,000 yearling purchase went postward at 99-1 odds in that victory, and while she was no fluke in a facile score, this move is too ambitious for me.

#8 CELESTIAL CHEETAH -- Bay filly got it done when going a route of ground for the first time at Delaware most recently. February foal faces tons better while drawing widest of all, and she would be a surprise.
