How to bet the La Coneja Stakes

January 29th, 2026

A total of eight fillies and mares will contest Sunday’s $80,000 La Coneja S. at Sunland Park. Multiple stakes victress #5 First Again (3-1) got a nice draw outside of the two main contenders in the affair and could sit a perfect trip in her 2026 debut. The six-year-old daughter of Axiomatic was a close third in the heat last campaign and could improve off of that showing while coming in fresh for the Sunday feature. The Danny Morales trainee has the pace to stay in range early before inching clear in the lane with Miguel Perez in the stirrups.

El Conejo Wagers

  • $20 win #5 First Again ($20)
  • $4 exacta key box 5 with 2,3 ($16)
  • 50-cent superfecta 5 with 2,3 with 2,3,6 with all ($10)

#2 Corrina Corrina (8-5), the defending champ in the heat, finished second at minuscule 1-20 odds on the course last time out but remains the one to beat for trainer Gary Cross. The 22-time winner is a course specialist with a strong 15-9-5-0 mark on the surface, and the Mr. Trieste mare also boasts an 8-5-3-0 line at this distance, too. The dark bay seven-year-old possesses the best closing burst in the field and will be able to save ground early from this post slot with regular pilot Tracy Hebert retaining the ride. Corrina Corrina will be formidable with something close to her best performance.

#3 Mo Money Time (4-1) upset the aforementioned on the surface in her latest appearance and must be given respect right back for conditioner Bart Hone. The chestnut daughter of Conquest Mo Money is the inside pace of the race, and it appears that she will be the one to catch as the field turns for home. She has room to improve, being relatively lightly raced compared to her main foes, and the four-year-old could get brave if she clears early under the guidance of Alfredo Juarez, Jr.

One longshot contender that can help spice up the exotics is #6 Honky Tonk Honey (12-1) for trainer Simon Buechler. The Kentucky Wildcat mare has run a pair of solid races since having the blinkers removed two back, and the five-year-old fired a bullet half-mile on this oval leading up to Sunday, as well. The chestnut cuts back from the one-mile voyage in her return and will be making one run in the lane with Luis Valenzuela in the silks.
