How to bet the One Dreamer Stakes

September 4th, 2025

*No Mo Candy scratched recently from the race.

A total of nine fillies and mares will travel one mile and 70 yards at Kentucky Downs on Thursday in the $500,000 One Dreamer S. I continue to give an edge to speed in races at this meeting when I am deciding between multiple runners, so in this spot, #7 No Mo Candy (3-1) is the choice.

One Dreamer Wagers

  • $20 win #7 No Mo Candy ($20)
  • $1 trifecta 7 with 5,8 with all ($14)
  • 50-cent trifecta 5,8 with 7 with all ($7)

Trained by Saffie Joseph, the Uncle Mo filly is a Grade 3 heroine with excellent gate presence, and she has run well while facing some nice foes in her last two appearances. The four-year-old lass was last seen checking in third behind a pair of good ones in the Ballston Spa S. (G2) at Saratoga on August 8 and has worked well in the interim. Although the bay has never run here, she has taken her game on the road in the past, and I’d be surprised if she doesn’t take to this unique course, too. She will be the one to catch and beat with Irad on board.

#8 Pharoah’s Wine (8-1) broke her maiden on the surface as a juvenile and closed well from too far back when seventh, beaten by 3 1/2 lengths, in the Music City S. (G2) at 6 1/2 furlongs here last season. The Dale Romans pupil is a better runner right now, coming in with a trio of very good efforts in succession, and it’s hard to dismiss the American Pharoah filly in her current form cycle. Corey Lanerie will have the four-year-old tracking the pace from third or fourth early on before asking the miss for her best late.

#5 Vive Veuve (5-2), a very good third in the aforementioned Music City at this venue in 2024, shows a 4-2-1-0 mark at this distance and comes in with a pair of open-length wins in succession in the allowance ranks. The Collected filly owns a strong turn of foot and surely likes this strip for Joe Sharp, who has saddled her to four top-two runs in a row since joining his barn. The Kentucky-bred will be arriving on the scene late beneath Brian Hernandez, Jr.
