How to bet the Rego Park Stakes

January 8th, 2021

A field of eight New York-bred sophomores will travel 6 1/2 panels on the dirt in the $100,000 Rego Park S. at Aqueduct on Sunday.

Rego Park Contenders

#1 HALPERT -- Englehart trainee rallied from well back to graduate second time out in the mud at Aqueduct. More Than Ready colt was game in victory off the shelf, but he will have to prove capable of running with stakes horses before I get in his corner.

#2 NEW YORK ONE -- Outsider was dusted in the recent Great White Way division of the New York Stallion Series S., and I can’t envision him being more than a brief pace presence on Sunday.

#3 UNO -- $255,000 son of Laoban made good on debut with a sharp win on the oval for Pletcher. Bay colt has trained forwardly in the interim, and I consider him to be a major win threat beneath Jose Lezcano.

#4 BLUE GATOR -- Horse to beat has never run a bad one from three tries for Maker. Liam’s Map colt was much the best in the New York Breeders’ Futurity S. at Finger Lakes two back, and his runner-up performance in the Notebook S. most recently was a fine showing as well. Carmouche will pilot the talented 3-year-old.

#5 WINDY NATIONS -- Second from the Maker shedrow made up steady ground when a closing fourth in the Stallion Series S. (Great White Way) last time out. Improving son of Soaring Empire needs another step forward to upset the field, but he rates as a top-three contender, nonetheless.

#6 STORM SHOOTER -- The second of three from the Pletcher barn adds blinkers after stopping early in the Notebook S. A sharp maiden winner two back, the $180,000 son of Twirling Candy has speed and might get brave if he clears the field in the early going. Dylan Davis will guide the sneaky contender.

#7 LOOKIN FOR TROUBLE -- Dark bay son of Into Mischief has placed twice in the stakes ranks and will bring more speed to the fray for Maker. Dark bay fired a bullet 5 panels in his latest morning drill, and he will be prominent throughout under Vargas.

#8 PERFECT MUNNINGS -- Second-timer looked the part in a first-out score on the lawn for Pletcher. Munnings 3-year-old draws well outside of the field, and his solid drills on the dirt indicate that he will handle the surface change while making his stakes bow. Manny Franco will be on board.
