A very good cast of sophomore fillies will battle in Sunday’s $250,000 Sunland Park Oaks at Sunland Park. The race came up a bit deeper compared to many prior editions of the affair, and there are numerous logical contenders in this exciting one-mile tilt.
Sunland Park Oaks Wagers
- $12 win and place #2 Cashed ($24)
- 50-cent trifecta 2,4 with 2,4,7 with all ($12)
- 50-cent superfecta 2,4 with 2,4,7 with 2,4,7 with all ($10)
The Doug O’Neill-trained #2 Cashed (5-1) has won or placed in each of her seven lifetime tries to date and offers very good value in the affair. By I’ll Have Another, the California-bred filly had blinkers removed and stretched out in distance two back, and the equipment change has moved her forward. She was a game second after disputing the pace throughout in the Starlet (G2) at Los Alamitos two back, prior to just missing in the grassy California Cup Oaks in her turf debut most recently.
Cashed is the inside pace of the race; she is proven at similar distances, and the chestnut has also posted a pair of seemingly solid morning moves in advance of her first run on the grounds, as well. Edwin Maldonado coming in to guide the filly is a positive, too.
Think you’ve got the @fairgrounds Late Pick 5 solved?@NTamm1215 & @TravisStone say otherwise.

#4 Bottle of Rouge (6-5) is the most accomplished filly in the field due to her score in the Del Mar Debutante (G1) in the summer. A decent sixth while facing much better in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) in her juvenile finale, the Bob Baffert trainee has been working in steady fashion since the middle of December in preparation for her three-year-old unveiling. Her best could surely be good enough with Juan Hernandez taking the reins. The daughter of Vino Rosso will be involved from the opening bell.
Rob Atras’ #7 Pashmina (7-2) has held up well in a pair of stakes races in succession against good ones at Fair Grounds as of late and is a viable win contender against this group. The $350,000 daughter of Constitution has shown slight progression with each lifetime run to date, and if the filly takes another step forward on Sunday, then she will surely be dangerous while well placed turning for home. The Kentucky-bred bay will never be far back under the guidance of Christian Torres.
