How to wager on Arlington Million day at Arlington Park

August 13th, 2016

The big day at Arlington Park is finally here, and the 10-race International Festival of Racing card is a skullbuster that I expect to average a signer for the day's eight rolling $0.50 Pick 3s. The ABC grid will be my roadmap to connect those dots with very few leans but willingness to use a bunch of horses in each race and hoping for the best. It's a gambling mentality, but there are some big prices that I don't want to miss out on at the expense of pushing the envelope on a "most likely" 2-to-1 winner.

The prototype for this approach is the Beverly D, which features the shortest-priced morning line favorite on the day in Sea Calisi but is the race I think is most likely to provide the day's biggest price. #3 Marypop is the tab to pop at a big price in this race. Going into the Modesty--the local prep for this race--I wrote a script, so to speak, whereby Marypop ran evenly in her North American debut and was poised to come back in the race her owner, Arlington Chairman Richard Duchossois really wants to win. She was 4-to-1 that day and could be 30-to-1 today second lasix for local connections who know how to win here.

If it's not Marypop there are others at similar prices I like, including #2 Al's Gal and #9 Zipessa. If their prices remain I might just wheel them and hope to get lucky.

The other races I expect to be more formful with the Arlington Million perhaps the most so, as following the scratch of Decorated Knight, I'm having a hard time seeing past the International invaders Mondialiste and Tryster.

My ABC grid is below. There are Pick 4s on races 2 & 6, an all-stakes Pick 5 in race 5, and an all-Grade 1 Pick 3 with guaranteed pool starting with the race 7 Secretariat. All three of the guaranteed pools end with the Arlington Million. Good luck!
