I’m a Chatterbox talks the talk in Cotillion

The chestnut miss powered down the center of the fast main track to stop the clock in 1:44.48 for trainer Larry Jones, and in the process earned her first official win since taking the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) in late March.
Calamity Kate led the way up front while chased by Alabama S. (G1) winner Embellish the Lace to her inside and champion Take Charge Brandi on the outside. The bay lass established splits of :23.56, :47.59 and 1:12.21 while seeking her second straight graded score after taking the Delaware Oaks (G3) on July 11.
Meanwhile, Geroux kept I’m a Chatterbox down on the inside but still within reach of the leading trio. To her outside was Keen Pauline, who was scratched from last Saturday’s Locust Grove S. at Churchill Downs against older runners in favor of this spot.
Calamity Kate still held the lead heading into the final turn, but Geroux had already taken I’m a Chatterbox wide for her run. The Fletcher and Carolyn Gray homebred easily reeled in Calamity Kate for the win, with Peace and War getting up for third over Eskenformoney.
Take Charge Brandi faded badly midway around the final turn in the 1 1/16-mile contest, ending up an eased last under the wire.
I’m a Chatterbox earned her first Grade 1 triumph in the Cotillion after being disqualified to second from a nose win in the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) two back. That followed a third-place run in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and preceded the Alabama, where she finished second.
The Kentucky-bred miss swept the Fair Grounds stakes for three-year-old fillies over the spring – taking the Silverbulletday S., Rachel Alexandra S. (G3) and Fair Grounds Oaks – and is now 5-2-2 from 10 starts in her short career.
