The History of the Matt Winn Stakes

Inaugurated as the Northern Dancer Stakes in 2002, The Remsen Stakes (G3) is run annually at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY in either mid May or early June. In 2011, the races name was changed in honor of Matt Winn, who who served as president and general manager of Churchill Downs between 1902 to 1949.
 
Past winners of note include Gun Runner (2016), who would go on to win the the Breeders' Cup Classic the next year as part of of a campaign where he was crowned both Horse of the Year and American Champion Older Dirt Male Horse
