Kentucky Downs Pick 5 wagers rely on a pair of singles

The fifth and final day of the 2015 Kentucky Downs meet concludes Saturday with another competitive program featuring 13 races and a nearly $30k Pick 5 carryover.

The Pick 5 begins in race 9 and I’ve got a couple of strong opinions in the sequence. I’ll single both in a main Pick 5 ticket and list a couple of savers.

Race 9: Bossy (#4) flashed potential over the winter and returned from a freshening two back with a solid third behind a stakes filly in a Parx allowance. The 3yo figures to be legged up after a nose second at Saratoga and like her chances from just off the pace. Listed at 8-1 on morning line, Catalano trainee is a straight bet and a single in the Pick 5, with 6, 8 & 10 as savers.

Race 10: Naples Gold (#7) rates as a viable upset candidate but prefer to spread in Pick 5 in contentious race. Including 2, 6 & 8 on tickets.

Race 11: Heath (#6) exits a respectable fourth to the impressive Sentiero Italia, with the runner-up and third-place finisher classy fillies as well, and her early foot looms large in the Dueling Grounds Oaks. At 9-2 on the morning line, the Bill Mott-trained Heath should offer decent value in the win pool and will be keyed in the Pick 5. 2, 11 & 13 are savers.

Race 12: Tiger Paw (#2) and Hot Squad (#13) could be live at first asking and Argot (#10) merits respect following a pair of even efforts at Saratoga. Will also use a couple of longshots, Tally (#4) and My Forty Four (#11), and #9 is a play-against after losing two straight as an odds-on favorite.

Race 13: Likely favorite Chalice (#7) merits inclusion but finale could be ripe for an upset. John Adams (#3) faces a class check but could forget to stop as possible lone speed. 1 & 6 also in the mix.
