Lady Eli, Flintshire breeze on Belmont’s inner turf

Unbeaten multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Lady Eli breezed four furlongs in :49.50 on the firm Belmont Park inner turf Sunday.

Trainer Chad Brown said the Divine Park filly came out fine as she is looking to make her first start since winning the 2015 Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1) and then recovering from laminitis.

"I thought she worked great," Brown said. "It was her second work back and we put her in company (with Grey Stark)."

Multiple Grade/Group 1 conqueror Flintshire also worked on Belmont’s inner turf Sunday, clocking five furlongs in 1:01.40.

Brown said Flintshire is being pointed toward the $250,000 Bowling Green Handicap (G2) on July 30. The six-year-old won the Manhattan Stakes (G1) last out on Belmont Stakes Day, June 11.

The English-bred Flintshire has two wins and a second in his three starts statedside, including a win in the Sword Dancer Stakes (G1) last year and a half-length runner-up effort in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Turf (G1).

"I'd like to keep him running out of his own stall all the way up to the Breeders' Cup and then go out on the road," Brown said. "That's where we're leaning."

Last-out Just a Game Stakes (G1) third-placer Mrs McDougal also went five furlongs on the inner turf Sunday, registering 1:02.28 for the distance. The Medaglia d’Oro four-year-old captured last year’s Lake George Stakes (G2) at Saratoga and is likely for a return trip to the Spa for the $500,000 Diana Stakes (G1) on July 23.

"She worked quite well this morning," Brown said. "We're probable for the Diana."

Brown added that all of his Saturday Stars & Stripes starters, which included Pricedtoperfection (4th), Last Waltz (7th) and Noble Beauty (8th) in the Belmont Oaks and Beach Patrol (3rd), Camelot Kitten (4th) and Call Provision (13th) in the Belmont Derby Invitational (G1), came out of their races in good order.

"So far, so good. I haven't had any problems so far,” he reported. “They'll all go their separate ways now. I just don't know where or when. But everyone emerged OK."
