Lightstream, Lucky Bryan capable of profiting from speed duels

Working on the assumption Kareena and Off the Tracks will find the other's speed too much to handle, I prefer the closers Lewis Bay and Lightstream in Saturday's $500,000 Test at Saratoga (G1). And of those two, Lightstream will surely offer the better price.

Lewis Bay is certainly capable around one turn, as shown by her early juvenile form, and is the confirmed class of the two with a pair of Grade 2 scores at 1 1/8 miles and placings in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Davona Dale (G2). Lightstream, though, is a perfect three-for-three at or around seven furlongs, and wasn't quite at her best when enduring a wide trip in the 1 1/16-mile Mother Goose (G1) last time, finishing third but only a length behind Lewis Bay.

Later in the day, in the La Jolla H. (G3) at Del Mar, Lucky Bryan may also prove the main beneficiary of a strong pace.

Debuting for new trainer John Sadler in the $78,000 Singletary in mid-May, Lucky Bryan tracked a moderate pace and had only advanced to third by the finish in his first outing in seven months.

Falling a length short in the $85,000 Rainbow a month later, Lucky Bryan finally put it all together earlier this meet in an entry-level allowance, winning by a nose after rallying from well back behind another moderate pace.

With Mr. Roary and Imperious One likely to set solid fractions, the race figures to set up for a closer, and hopefully luck will be on Bryan's side.
