Louisiana Downs Quarter Horse Meet Begins on January 9

Jockey Raul Ramirez, Jr. will have a full book in the 2016 Louisiana Downs Quarter Horse meet

The 2016 Louisiana Downs Quarter Horse meet kicks off on Saturday, January 9. Located near Shreveport, Louisiana Downs’ will offer 11 stakes, including the first futurity of the year, the 300-yard, $100,000-added Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) on March 12, and the 300-yard, $75,000-added Harrah’s Futurity (G3) on closing day. Two features, the $15,000 Marathon Stakes at 870 yards and the $15,000 Harrah's Dash, at 250 yards, are set for opening day.

Top horsemen include Martin Trejo, Kenny Roberts, Kevin Broussard, Orlando Orozco, Kenneth Weeks and Willie Simien. Last year's co-leading jockeys, Raul Ramirez, Jr. and David Alvarez, will return along with Donald Watson, Alfonso Lujan, Lucas Constantin and Donell Blake.
