Australia Racing Preview - 1/10/2014
It’s a big day of racing this Saturday with the running of the Magic Millions up on the beautiful Gold Coast. They’ve been looking at the yearlings all week and now they’re all ready to get on track and have a look at last year’s graduates’ return for a crack at the $2 Million 2yr old classic. We also aren’t going to ignore Flemington where the listed Chester Manifold is up for grabs as well as the $100,000 AUS Rain Lover Handicap.
GOLD COAST MAGIC MILLIONS
RACE 5 – GOLD COAST $1 MILLION MAGIC MILLIONS 3YR OLD GUINEAS 1400M (1,000,000 AUS)
As it is every year, it another terrific line-up going around in the Magic Millions 3yo Guineas. Victorian visitor The Bowler may find the front here, nos. 3 and 10 won't be far away whilst others may push on; tempo doesn't appear to me that it is going to be frantic though. I don’t think I can justify tipping against ENQUARE, he's won his past 4 starts, is a lot more versatile now having the ability to sit handier & draws a perfect gate, he really does seem to be the logical selection. That said, I suggest have something on TINTO, who will be big odds & is just busting to get out to this trip, Tim Bell will be winding her up late, so look out. Certainly no knock SWEET IDEA, all will depend on how much petrol she spends early on, but she certainly has a great chance here in this race.
SELECTIONS – ENQUARE / SWEET IDEA / TINTO / CHARLIE BOY
RACE 6 – JEEP DON’T HOLD BACK $2 MILLION MAGIC MILLIONS 2YO CLASSIC 1200M (2,000,000 AUS)
The big one of the day, the 2014 Magic Millions 2yo Classic. Pace galore engaged with Oakleigh Girl, Sheer Style& I Am The General looking like the three main culprits for the breakneck lead, they won't get any cheap runs. Barriers 9 inwards have won the past 7 runnings & to be brutally honest that looks the way to go again in this year’s edition. The Waterhouse trained CYCLONE is the danger, 3 wide on debut, totally smashed when the likely winner last time & although 3 weeks between runs wont lack anything in fitness. UNENCUMBERED has done nothing wrong, he's strong to the line & will just park away until required to unleash in the straight. 5 & 13 may provide you with some value in the multiples action.
SELECTIONS – UNENCUMBERED / CYCLONE / STROAK / NORDIC EMPIRE
FLEMINGTON
RACE 5 - RAIN LOVER HANDICAP 2500M ($100,000 AUS)
Not sure leader, maybe 8? But if honesty is the key here, then 1,3,5,9,11,13,15 can all go forward, tactics will definitely be important early! REIGNING was a forgive job last time when lost all momentum, his form prior around Solemn/Index Linked is good enough here with 54kg, he was an OK 5th in Qld Derby at 2400m, so distance should be fine. No knock on INSTRUMENTALIST and SUSPENDED GEM they both put to rest (somewhat) 2500m doubts latest. ALTONIO was the sectional star from the GOTTINO race and has massive weight pull, and is proven 2500m, might be overs too? ANGOLA was first home of these in Bagot so must be respected
SELECTIONS – REIGNING / ANTONIO / ANGOLA / INSTRUMENTALIST
RACE 6 – CHESTER MANIFOLD LISTED 1400M ($120,000 AUS)
Not sure leader again, so I’m not going to offer a guess this time. LIMES looks back to his best now, a few behind him latest had softer runs and the last crack but he kept running, that form is good, he does boast a win over superstar Boban! ANLON is flying, just about the 'Run Of The Month' two-back before beating one with world-class form (and it was backed with a lot of money) last time. These are clear top two for mine. PRAIRIE STAR can upset them but will get further; THE PEAK gets good run again and is in the mix; not sure now re: CHASE THE RAINBOW
SELECTIONS – ANLON / LIMES / THE PEAK / PRAIRIE STAR
