A Brief History of the Pacific Classic Stakes
The Pacific Classic Stakes is a 1.25 mile thoroughbred horse race for 3 year and older horses run at the Del Mar Racebtrack in California annually. The race gives a purse of $1 million and is the premier event of the season at one of the nation's premier race meetings. It switched its main racing surface from dirt to synthetic Polytrack in 2007, perhaps leading to the victory of long shot Student Council that year. In 2008 the Classic became a part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge, the winner of the race automatically earning a spot in the Breeders' Cup Classic.Pacific Classic Stakes - Race Records
