Monday Harness Preview

Monday evening a trio of harness tracks along the East Coast will offer cards that highlight pacing fillies and mares and two of those ovals could be affected by the impact of Winter Storm Wiley, hopefully the last of the nearly alphabetically exhausted list.

At Dover Downs on Monday, nearly the entire 15-race card is dedicated to pacing fillies and mares, from those in the top class to non-winners conditions and claimers. Several distaffers could prevail at generous prices this evening, while another appears to be another budding star on the circuit.

In the third, a non-winners of three races for fillies and mares, give Rusty's Winning a chance to atone for last week's second-place effort. The Robert Myers trainee raced first over and finished second in the faster half of the split condition and looks poised to garner her third win in five tries this year. She could also step into the non-winners of four class and be a factor soon.

Several races later in the sixth, a contentious non-winners of five affair for filly-mare pacers, look for the speedy Ideal Ginny and the gritty Sir Sync Z Tam to be almost inseperable at the wire. Last week in the split condition, Ideal Ginny set wicked early fractions before being nailed late in 1:54.1, while Sir Sync Z Tam raced in the paceless division and rallied first over into a good back half to finish second in her second start of the season.

Several races later in the 11th, look for Caviart Cara to continue her winning ways in the winners over $45.000 lifetime class. Last week the Virginia-bred pacer set honest fractions early and then drew clear late to a four-length score in 1:52.1 in one of the best performances on the card. Only the exceptional Jk Letitgo, who won the Filly-Mare Open in first over fashion in her first try against the good mares, delivered a better performance. Caviart Cara looks like another budding star on the circuit.

Then one race later in the 12th, a non-winners of five races lifetime event for pacing fillies and mares, give One Night Dance a chance at redempetion. Last week she raced first over into a 56.1 back half and finished second. She should be able to work out a better trip this evening and an honest tempo up front would also help her cause.

At Yonkers Raceway, the Monday evening focus this month is the Petticoat Series for three- and four-year-old filly pacers and this week's second round looks to be very contentious.

In fact, the second division, carded as the third race on the program, features two fillies poised to prevail. Doo Wee Rusty was a sharp second to Road Bet in the opening round and could atone this week, while Odds On Alpha benefits from a huge post swing and should be able to work out a much better trip than she endured last week from the seven hole. Look for either Doo Wee Rusty or Odds On Alpha in the winner's circle on Monday.

Then three races later in the sixth, give Mattie Terror Girl a chance to garner a Petticoat leg. Last week she was used twice while starting from the dreaded eight hole and finished third as the 6-5 second choice. Tonight she will start from post three and likely get involved early and then be a factor in the late stages.

At Pompano Park on Monday, the highlight of the card will be a trio of Open events for filly-mare pacers and all three appear competitive. The opening race is the featured $10,000 Open, while the fourth in the $8500 Open and the sixth in the $7500 division. All three events are worth watching this evening and perhaps, after some deciphering, we can uncover some value plays for next week's trio of Open events.
