Monday Harness Preview for 3/24/2014

Once again this evening the Monday standardbred cards at Dover Downs, Pompano Park and Yonkers Raceway will center around the pacing fillies and mares and, as has been another common theme, inclement weather could play a belated factor at two of those ovals.
Obviously the task at all three tracks is to find some value and although the three ovals will offer a grand sum of 40 races, the genuine plays seem few and far between.
At Dover Downs, the first play of the evening comes in the fifth race, a non-winners of four races lifetime event for fillies and mares. Look for Selandia (Tim Tetrick) to benefit from an honest early tempo this week and prevail at 6-1 or so. Last week in this class she was forced to race from far back and third over into a swift back half, but this evening with Tetrick in the bike she should be on the move earlier and rolling in the lane to her first win in six starts this year.
Several races later in the ninth, give Ideal Ginny a solid chance to attain her first win in four starts this season in this non-winners of five affair. Last week she raced first over and settled for second behind Sir Zync Z Tam who she carried to the wire. Ideal Ginny should be able to work out a better trip this evening, as should Full Of Fame, who raced wide through much of the mile last week and had to settle for minor spoils.
Then two races later in the 11th, a winners over $45,000 event for filly-mare pacers, look for both Rachelle's Beat and Caviart Cara to be factors throughout. Rachelle's Beat was a distant second last week as Scootin For Joy rolled to an easy score, but that one will be overbet in this group. Caviart Cara had little to offer in her latest, but two starts back she was giant and a duplicate effort will make her a serious contender.
Several races later in the finale, take another swing at Melissa's Fancy in this non-winners of $9001 last six class for pacing fillies and mares. Last week the Eddie Dennis trainee raced first over into a good back half in this class and held safe Alice's Restaurant who enjoyed a second over trip behind Melissa's live cover. Melissa's Fancy will have to overcome an outside draw to be a factor, but she's worth a play at her 8-1 morning line price.
That same evening at Yonkers Raceway, the third round of the Petticoat Series for three- and four-year-old filly pacers features three divisions as the group begins to thin out well before the final.
In the third race, the first Petticoat split, look for Spell to Cast to notch her first win of the season from nine tries. Last week in the opening Petticoat division, Spell to Cast raced first over into a good back half as Cloris Hanover led throughout. Spell to Cast is running out of chances to reach the final or consolation, so at 8-1 on the morning line she is well worth a play this evening.
In the next race on the card, the second Petticoat division, look for Road Bet and Kj's Foxy Lady to dominate the event from the outset. Road Bet is among the future book favorites to capture the final and should atone for last week's narrow setback while leaving from the coveted rail this evening. Kj's Foxy Lady was unlucky in her last when shuffled early and rallying late to get second, but she should be right on Road Bet's heels throughout the mile this evening.
At Pompano Park on Monday the focus is also on the pacing fillies and mares as the Florida five-eighths mile oval offers a quartet of Open events.
In the third race, the featured $10,000 Filly-Mare Open, look for Oceans Motion to benefit from her rail draw and emerge victorious as the 4-1 third choice in a race where Southwind Trini will get ample support, as will Mach Me Not, a sharp 1:53.4 winner in her seasonal debut. But also be weary of Head First, who moved up off a win in the $8500 Open last week.
In the very next race on the card, look for Darlington Strike to garner her first win in nine starts on the season in the $6000 Open. Last week she finished fourth after a long, first over bid in the $7500 Open and gets some mild class relief this week.
