Monday Harness Preview for 414/2014

While the Delaware tracks enjoy a modest 10-day break until the start of the Harrington Raceway spring meet next Monday, standardbred fans will have plenty of chances to wager on a bevy of good overnight races at Pompano Park and Yonkers Raceway this evening.
Most of the Pompano Park card tonight will highlight the pacing fillies and mares, with four Open events scheduled. But there are also a couple of other playable events on the program.
In the third race, a non-winners of four races lifetime event for trotters, expect Matriarch Hanover to be a short price from the rail following her seven-length score in 1:56.2 one week ago in her seasonal debut. The four-year-old Andover Hall mare gained command soon after the start and then sprinted clear in the lane, stopping the timer a full second faster than the non-winners of five class for trotters that night.
One race later in the fourth, the featured $9000 F-M Open, look for Bombilla Hanover to post the mild upset. Last week in the secondary Open, Bombilla Hanover carved out wicked fractions then was nailed late by Market Dynamics in 1:52.1. Black Diamond Girl should be the slight favorite here following a good second-place effort in the top class one week ago and merits being used in the exactas.
Then several races later in then sixth, the $7000 F-M Open, give Ella V Horse a chance at the upset. Listed at 8-1 on the morning line while starting from the rail, Ella V Horse should be able to work out a much better trip than the week before when she left to gain command then got shuffled into oblivion as Say Uh-huh brushed to command down the backside and then prevailed at 15-1 in 1:54.2. Expect Ella V Horse to be in contention throughout the mile this evening.
At Yonkers Raceway in New York tonight, several pacers and trotters look poised for upsets.
In the second race, a non-winners of $5000 last six class for trotters, expect One More Kid and Marion Miss Julie to control the race from the outset from their inside posts. One More Kid will likely be the odds-on favorite following his pocket-sitting, 1:59.4 score against similar one week before, but Marion Miss Julie should control the tempo from the outset and she could keep the favorite at bay through the lane.
Then much later in the 10th, the first half of the split, non-winners of $8000 last six condition for pacers, give Brickyard Brewer a chance to light up the tote board despite drawing the dreaded eight hole for a second straight week. Last week in the much faster split for this class, Brickyard Brewer never got involved in the action while starting from post eight and defeated only one rival. Tonight he will likely get into the race at some point and could prevail at 35-1.
Harrington will kick off its 2014 spring meet next Monday - a day later than normal due to the Easter holiday - and then will offer live racing four nights each week, Sunday-Wednesday. Highlighting the meet will be the second round of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund elims for the three-year-olds of both gaits and genders, with the quartet of $100,000 DSBF finals slated for Governor's Day, July 24.
