Oaklawn: How to bet the 2025 Pippin Stakes Dec. 26

December 26th, 2025

A cast of six fillies and mares will vie in the $150,000 Pippin S. at Oaklawn Park on Friday. Defending champ #3 Corningstone (2-1) returns for the 1 1/16-mile affair, and I will tab her for a repeat in the event. Trained by Kenny McPeek, the daughter of Kantharos enters on a nice run of form, led by a clear runner-up showing in the Falls City (G3) in Louisville in her most recent showing. The Indiana-bred mare can win from on or off the pace, and she figures to always be well placed in the heat with Joseph Bealmear taking the reins.

Pippin Stakes Analysis

#4 Peignoir (4-1) comes in fresh for trainer Rodolphe Brisset and will challenge for a top-three placing with her best effort. Four-year-old daughter of Mendelssohn was a stakes third in her lone prior effort in Hot Springs, and she has trained steadily on the strip in preparation for her comeback, as well. The Kentucky-bred gray has won or placed in each of her five career runs at the distance, and she possesses the early foot to be involved from the start running off the shelf. The three-time stakes-placed filly will have Christian Torres in the irons.

Grade 3 heroine #2 Queen Azteca (10-1), also from the Brisset shedrow, faced some really good ones in her first pair of assignments in the states and lands in a realistic spot for her local debut. The bay will face her elders for the first time on Friday, but should be fully acclimated to the U. S., and her run in the Mother Goose (G2) most recently was not a horrible try. She has a lot of appeal to me at a price with Ramon Vazquez in the stirrups.

Morning-line choice #6 Standoutsensation (9-5) has won four of her last five, led by a popular score in the Turrnback The Alarm S. at Aqueduct most recently. The Tom Amoss pupil sports a solid 5-1-3-0 line at Oaklawn Park, and the outside draw will be a benefit to her, too. The Take Charge Indy four-year-old will be forcing the tempo while clear throughout with Luis Saez in the silks.
