Oaklawn Park - Northern Spur Stakes; Saturday, April 12, 2014

April 11th, 2014

Oaklawn Park 8 | 5:10 pm ET Northern Spur for 3yo going 1 mi

BOURBONIZE tried the deep end in his last two, a pair of graded stake races, but now back in this $100,000 race, he is the one to beat. He started his career with two straight wins, including a four length victory over the Oaklawn track in January. The blinkers go on and he can sit the trip from post two. With KNOCK EM FLAT, FABULOUS KID and SON OF DIXIE in the field, the pace should be fast. That will help BOURBONIZE, SIX SPOT and SHELTOWEE'S BOY. SIX SPOT has the same owner/ trainer combination as Tapiture, who is expected to start as one of the favorites in the Arkansas Derby three races later on the card. SIX SPOT can start off the stakes action with a win for the Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC. SHELTOWEE'S BOY could get over looked on the board, but may be worth a bet and at least should be included in any pick-4 wager. The gelded son of Nobiz Like Shobiz was fifth in the Grade 2 Rebel and has a win over the track. The Northern Spur kicks off the all-stakes pick-4 that also includes the Instant Racing, the Oaklawn Handicap and the Arkansas Derby.
