Pair of plays for Wednesday’s Winsurance at Evangeline Downs

The 4-year-old gelding exits a solid third-place effort at the level/distance and will make his second start off the freshening today. There isn’t much pace in the eight-horse field and Richter’s Eagle can prove best on the front end.

 Fillies and mares will contest Race 7, a 6 ½-furlong allowance for non-winners of two races lifetime, and I’ll make a case for #11 Red La Rosa.

Outside posts have fared well at the distance and Red La Rosa returns to a conditioned allowance following a pair of respectable efforts versus stakes foes, finishing third most recently in her two-turn debut. The cutback in distance appears favorable.

Red La Rosa can finish, registering BRIS Late Pace Ratings in the mid-90s in a pair of March starts at the Fair Grounds, and the Corale Richards trainee displayed good tactical speed last time, posting E1 and E2 Pace Ratings in the 80s. I like seeing Colby Hernandez retain the mount, he’s good from the gate and will look to establish decent positioning in the early stages.
