Palm Beach Weekly Wrap Up 1-15-2017

January 16th, 2017

That was outstanding entertainment.

This previous week brought us the start of the He's My Man tourney, plus we are just a few short days away from the National Championship in Daytona. The hype is starting to grow. Love this time of year!

Here is the top stories we witnessed at The Palm Beach Kennel Club.

He's My Man Tourney Begins

The sprint championship of legends got started this week, as the 37th running of the $50,000 He's My Man Classic began last Wednesday.  A record 72 greyhounds originally started, all vying for the chance at the top prize and instant world wide fame.

Just like last year when long shots took over the tournament won by Xtenshun (pictured), a few wild first round contests took place.  The biggest had to be in Race 12 when Bob's Seahawk from the Agganis Kennel lit the tote board up at 34-1 odds.  Make Me Like You also scored a 16-1 win in the 4th. Heavy pre-tournament favorites Janice Dean & Superior Tyson both finished 7th in their respected races, while Whirlin Toodlelu finished 6th in hers.

With a tournament this large, even one bad race can knock you out of the competition fairly quickly unless you turn it around.  Saturday's 2nd Round was beyond crucial.

Before the racing even got started Saturday, it was announced on The Backstretch Show Friday (95.9 FM The Palm) that Superior Tyson was scratched from the tournament for a minor issue.  B & B Racing officials didn't think he would miss too much time, but the "Knockout King" would need some off track time to get back to form.  Look for Tyson to be back defending his St Patricks Day Invitational crown come March.

Saturday's 2nd Round was a little more predictable.  Toodlelu bolted the fastest tournament time of the tourney so far with a blazing 29.42 secs split, and Janice Dean was victorious in her race as well. Futurity finalist O Ya Sunflower from the Lester Raines Kennel was a huge victor in the finale, winning against a few of Palm Beach's elite talent to keep her in the championship hunt.

3rd Round action starts this Wednesday, with just 32 athletes left competing after a massive 40 dog cut.  Tune in to see if your favorite hound can advance to the Round of 16 semifinals on Sunday!

She's The First To 20

Fraulein Morgan from the Janie Carroll Kennel continues to put together one impressive campaign.  "The Bachelorette" secured her 20th win of the season on Monday, going box to wire in her typical style for the victory.  She's been the track championship leader the entire season and now has a commanding five race lead over next best Barts Big Bang.  She's a must watch this Monday in the finale to see if she can keep this season long mojo rolling.

Daytona 550 Is Almost Upon Us

The granddaddy of them all is just a short week away, with the eyes of the world turning to the Daytona Beach Kennel Club next Saturday night for our National Championship. Eight of the finest athletes in all of sports will be on display to determine on the field who is the best sprinter in the country.

Daytona is expecting massive crowds all weekend, with temperatures in the 70's and 80's and beautiful Florida sunshine for all that come.  The BetAmerica Team will have wall to wall coverage all week leading up to the big race, along with race day coverage on our social media feeds.

Check out our Facebook wall for past race videos of all eight Finalists this week that includes double stakes winner Seldom Told from Jacksonville!

Atascocota Camry Finding That Winning Stride Again

Last years Co-Track Champion Atascocita Camry from Suncoast Racing is back to doing what she does best.  Camry won her first race since September with a 29.98 secs sprint win on Sunday in the finale 15th.  Camry was able to have enough gas in the tank to take her 4th victory of the season.

Of course, we all remember Camry being so dominant on the 660 yard course last season.  No word yet if she will be bringing her game back to the "Rhonda" Course that she had so many famous runs on.  Look out for Camry as we continue on in the second half of this season.

That's all we have for this week.  We'll see you next time for the Wrap Up!
