Palm Beach Weekly Wrap Up 10/16/2016
Another outstanding week of racing at the Palm Beach Kennel Club! After laying low last week during Hurricane Matthew, everybody at the club and the fans around the world were ready for a full week of exciting action and that's exactly what we got.
Here's the top stories we saw this past week at "The Beach."
The Stars Showed Up For Fab Friday
The Friday Matinee's have turned into the biggest cards of the entire week lately at Palm Beach. Record breaker Ethel Is Here (pictured) St. Pats Champ Superior Tyson & season wins leader GV MooseIsLoose have regularly been getting the call to start the weekend of racing and they didn't disappoint in this card.
"Kid Dynamite" Supeprior Tyson got the party started in the 12th Race, going head to head with the pride of the Royal Racing Team Blu Too Tarmac. Tyson bolted from the box early and TKO'd the competition early en route to a dominant 29.57 secs victory. Tyson is now a 50% winner on the season and clearly has his sights on bringing home more hardware for the kennel champions from last season B & B Racing.
Not to be outshined by anybody, Derby Champ Ethel Is Here started against a mixed grade TA field in the 14th and quickly exhumed her intentions as she took the lead from the start and left every other runner in the rear view mirror. The 37.86 secs victory showed that Ethel who will turn 4 in January has a lot left to prove before he career is done. I would love to see her continue to run well and to possibly defend her Derby title in February.
Then it was time for "The Moose."
Arguably the most popular greyhound at the track right now, GV's MooseIsLoose from the alpha Douglas Kennel got his season leading 12th victory in the finale, it what turned out to be a razor tight 29.61 win that needed a photo to decide it. With the Moooooooooooose chants raining up and down A1A, this is an absolute star to watch every time he starts.
With Fraulein Morgan taking off for Hollywood next month, Moose could put a serious strangle hold on the track championship chase in the next few months if he continues winning at the 66% clip he is showing this season. Send him to Daytona!
Agganis Starts The Saturday Matinee On Fire
It is true that kennels can suddenly get hot and put together winning streaks during cards or over the course of a week or two. The Agganis Kennel went simply en fuego to start Saturday's action by taking the first four contests for their team. Starting off with Too Tall Bobbied, Blazing Pandora, Frank And Beans & ending with super sprinter Centex Heather, Agganis put together a run you just don't see ever at this track.
If you bet the Agganis Daily Double, you took home a cool $86 on a two dollar bet. Congrats to owner Arthur Agganis & longtime trainer Bob Dawson on the hot streak!
Top Greyhound Announcers List Coming!
One of our most anticipated lists of all time comes out on Tuesday, when we reveal who are favorite greyhound track announcers are in the country. With so many great ones out there currently, it will be tough to come up with just 5 to focus on.
If you are looking for announcers that are straight number callers and don't include any names in their race calls, this will not be the list for you. These five are extremely talented and unique in calling the greyhounds home at their individual tracks.
Look for BARN host Jason Beem and I to discuss this announcers list coming up on Wednesday on the BetAmerica Radio Network!
The Weather Machine Puts On A Show
The greyhound named after the Fox News anchor was impressive again on Monday.
Janice Dean from the Brindle Kennel put on some serious after burners in the finale, rallying from a mile back to steal the Grade A victory for her team in 30.04 secs.
The real Janice Dean has become a huge fan of her greyhound and the sport itself, as she continues to retweet all of her race replays. I know Palm Beach would love to have her come visit the club in the future to meet her beautiful namesake athlete.
NGA Fall National Meet Wraps Up
With the Fall National Meet & Auction wrapping up in Abilene, Kansas over the weekend, record prices for greyhounds were again the norm as owners around the country are looking for that next big thing.
The puppies that were sold probably won't make an impact for a few months in the sport, but this meet has shown in the past that a ton of talent is sold at this auction. Most of the talent will head to Southland Park in Arkansas, but expect some of that fast speed to head down to South FLA as well.
That's all we have for this week. We'll see you next time for the Wrap Up!
