Palm Beach Weekly Wrap Up 10/23/2016

October 24th, 2016

Another fantastic week of racing at The Palm Beach Kennel Club!  Lets get into the top stories we witnessed over the past 7 days.

Ivanka Trump the Greyhound Featured In The New York Post

She has the perfect name for this time of the year because no matter what you think of it, you'll have an opinion.

Ivanka Trump the greyhound from the Brindle Kennel was a surprise 10-1 winner in Friday's Matinee and the New York Post picked up on it.  They asked Palm Beach for info over the weekend on the cleverly named hound, with the story running in Sunday's Edition.

Brindle has been one of the talks of the nation this season.  Many of Brindle's team of greyhounds is named after celebrities, including Janice Dean "The Weather Machine."  The Fox News weather anchor has enjoyed discovering the sport of racing and keeping tabs on the beauty of a dog that is named after her.

This has been a long standing tradition of owners in the sport naming their hounds after well known celebs.  One of the most popular videos we've ever posted on our Facebook feed was Ivanka's litter mate Donals Trump breaking his maiden over the summer.

Ladder Run Stopped

Sunday's Matinee saw a budding hot prospect trying to continue her undefeated run to start her career.  O Ya Sunflower from the new Lester Raines Kennel had flown up the  ladder through four starts and was looking to run with the stars of A Grade next time out if she could get another victory.

Sunflower was in contention early, but was upset by former top class greyhound Superior Ali and stop the Ladder run.

No greyhound has been able to complete the rise from Maiden to A unbeaten since Sg's Tom Seaver won 7 straight last December.

Sunflower looks to have a bright future here and is absolutely a puppy to watch out for as we head towards Futurity qualifying in December.

Toodlelu Excites Fans This Week

Most any track announcer around will tell you that calling a sensational closing effort by a greyhound is one of the best parts of their job.  Whirlin Toodlelu did it not just once but twice this past week.

"Toodles" from the top team this season in the Douglas Kennel brought fans to their feet last Sunday, coming from far back to win a photo finish decision at the line.  Even better was on Saturday night, when Toodlelu used every bit of the wide track to stun the top class field for her third victory in a row.

Toodlelu was a Finalist in the Labor Day Puppy Stakes and has become a fan favorite.  One of my favorite greyhounds going without a doubt!

Here's the replay from Saturday night of Toodles remarkable victory:

Janie Carroll's Kennel Has The Fastest Hounds This Season

Palm Beach's fastest times of the season were updated this past week on their track stat sheet.  The biggest standout for me was seeing that Janie Carroll's Team was leading in three of the four distances that Palm Beach runs.  Pepper Cream - Super Sprint 16.35 secs, JustDoInMyThing (pictured) -Sprint 29.16 secs & "The Bachelorette" Fraulein Morgan being the class of the middle distance with a 37.53 secs romp.

Carroll's team has had quite the two plus years running at Palm Beach.  Their squad has broken multiple course records and won a Derby championship with Ethel Is Here, who aso took home a piece of the Track Wins Championship last season.  If you ask Crystal Carroll whose family owns the team about the secret to their success, she would give all the credit to her her trainer they have nicknamed the "Swiss Hammer" Monica Smith.

Here's a link to the up to the minute stats at "The Beach."

That's all we have for this week.  See you next time for the Wrap-Up!
