Palm Beach Weekly Wrap Up 11-27-2016

November 28th, 2016

It's the most wonderful time of the year. The turkey leftovers are all gone, the holiday shopping bonanza has begun and stakes season for our sport is just on the horizon.  Grab another piece of pumpkin pie and take a look back at the top stories we saw this past week at The Palm Beach Kennel Club.

Track Walk To Beat Cancer

One of the best things about Palm Beach is that racing and poker isn't their only game.  They are also a charitable organization that loves giving back to it's South Florida community.  This past Saturday, a group of fans and greyhounds braved perfect conditions to take a walk around the track to continue the awareness for cancer research.  All proceeds from the shirts, bracelets and other items were given directly to organizations in the community that share the one goal to finally beat this horrible disease.

One lucky fan got to rock one of the coolest blankets given out all year. Congrats!

Fabulous Friday Delivers

Fridays at PBKC are something special and this past weekend starter didn't disappoint.

First in the Matinee 14th, Fraulein Morgan from the Janie Carroll Kennel continued her early season dominance by taking her leading 16th victory in a thriller that was won by just 0.01 secs over Royal Racing's Go Bon Kickstart.

"The Bachelorette" has had one of the more impressive starts to a season that I can remember not only leading the track championship chase by three wins, but also having the top two times on the Rhonda Course & the best winning percentage (69 %) of any greyhound in South FLA.

From the beginning, it was always the plan to have Morgan leave to Hollywood Park for their meet that starts this Friday. Just like last year, Morgan will run there until April and be back at Palm by May.  If this was indeed Morgan's last race here for a while, she will certainly be remembered for the dominance & consistency she has shown all season.

Here the replay of Morgan's win:

Then it was Toodles turn.

In the finale 15th, the crowd favorite Whirlin Toodlelu from the top team this season Douglas Kennel put on a spectacle as she again came from behind yet again to seal a victory.  This one was most entertaining because she pulled up next to the leader on the homestretch, slowed down for a split second to see if she was to be challenged, then took off. Did I see a wink from Toodles there?

Toodleu now is tied for second place in the track championship chase with 13 W's. She also has more victories (7) since the beginning of October then any other athlete at the club.

This past week I had my first day off since last Christmas, as Palm Beach has no racing to celebrate this special holiday.  I hope you enjoyed the time with your loved ones and ate a ton of yummy food! Two days a year is enough vacation for me.

Score One For The Greyhounds!

The greyhound community across the globe stood up and cheered this week as Gia The Greyhound won best in show at the 15th Annual Purina National Dog Show in Philadelphia. Most of these shows are won by the more popular Terriers, Cocker Spaniel's & Boxers but it was the greyhound this time that stood alone.

I published an article over the weekend showing which greyhounds at Palm Beach and their alumni that could possibly win this competition next year.  Of course, the Queen is at the top of the list.  Here's a link to the article:

$20,000 Futurity On Deck

I told you we were getting closer to the real money being won.

As we roll into December, all eyes will turn to the puppies at Palm Beach as the $20,000 Dick Andrews Futurity Tournament gets rolling Wednesday, December 7th.  This tourney has always produced young top talent and the action is jam packed for the three weeks leading up to the Final the day after Christmas.

We'll see who the next star will be as Kay Beowulf from Rader Racing proved in winning last years Final.

That's all we have for this week.  We'll see you next time for the Wrap Up!
