Palm Beach Weekly Wrap Up 5/15/2016
This seasons entertainment at the Palm Beach Kennel Club has just been off the charts! Can you believe there is only 6 weeks left in the 2015-2016 racing season here? Lets take a look at the top stories from this past weeks action:
Season Wins Chase
Current Standings
Ethel Is Here - 25 Wins
Kb's Like A Fox - 25 Wins
Atascocita Camry - 24 Wins
Barts Dublin - 24 Wins
Superior Tyson- 22 Wins
The main story that will dominate the fans interest heading into the final day of the season on June 30th. In what could be the most hotly contested championship Palm Beach has ever seen, these five contenders all have a shot at the title. All five contenders all reside from different Kennels, making this chase even more intriguing. With Barts Dublin & Atascocita Camry winning this past weekend, the standings have become a complete log jam at the top.
St Pats Champ Superior Tyson from B & B Racing may be in some trouble in this chase after finishing last in Sunday's Matinee finale. It's not impossible to come back, but it will be very difficult to make up ground especially with how well the other four are running.
Kb's Like A Fox is the two time defending champion, but drew the least desired 8 hole in his last two starts contributing to being left out of the winners circle. As we found out last year though, Fox heated up at just the right time and put the chase away in the final weeks. Still could happen this season.
The Return of Ethel
You know you are a huge superstar when fans around the world get excited about a schooling race.
Derby Champ Ethel Is Here from the Janie Carroll Kennel came back to racing after being off since April 1st this past Wednesday, running a solid 38.07 secs schooling victory on the "Rhonda Course." Fans on Twitter & Facebook responded all week to the replay I posted of Ethel and how thrilled they were she was back. Ethel will most likely school again this Wednesday, with a return probable for next week.
*Hustle It Up*
After leading the track championship chase all season long last year with Hustle It Up only to see it evaporate after an extended vacation, Janie Carroll's Team you know is hoping that Ethel comes back strong and is able to put this chase away for their squad. Ethel has broken the 660 yard course record multiple times, won the $50,000 Derby and has been in the Top 25 UGR National Poll throughout the year. Winning the track championship would just be icing on the cake for one of the biggest superstars South FLA has ever seen.
Camry Continues The Domination
One of the hottest greyhounds on the planet Atascocita Camry from Suncoast Racing kept her winning streak going Friday, as she held on for her 7th straight victory. The race had some major drama at the wire as Camry took her typical huge lead into the final turn, only to start running out of gas when she needed it most. Camry's fans and players that bet on her needed a strong antacid as they watched her win by just 0.02 secs over a hard charging Omega Point from owner Steve Schlachter.
Camry has been one of the most exciting athletes to watch all season long at Palm Beach. With the return of Ethel Is Here just a short time away, Camry's winning ways may be numbered. A fade like she showed on Friday will simply not work when a world class runner like Ethel is on your tail. A rivalry to watch going forward without a doubt.
The Next "Big" Thing
I've always had a nose for spotting young talent at this track and I think we are on the verge of seeing another national contender develop before our eyes.
Futurity Finalist Go Big Or GoHome from owner Monte Jacobs is back from Hollywood and looks absolutely sensational. Big won his 5th straight contest in Saturday's Matinee finale by absolutely smoking a 29.33 secs victory that left even me saying wow. The brother of Stakes Finalist Kinda Cruel Red should be racing here all summer in what I predict will be a dominant campaign.
With the Grade A sprint talent lacking in star power currently, Big has a chance to put himself on the national map if he can string together a magical run. United Greyhound Racing and the BetAmerica Daytona 550 National Championship selection team will need to keep their eyes on this just turned 2 year old monster.

BetOn BetAmerica The Greyhound!
Nothing gets us more excited then when our girl BetOn BetAmerica from the Royal Racing Team gets the call to start. It's even more amazing when she wins! That's exactly what she did in Wednesday's Matinee, as the walking billboard won her Grade C race by the narrowest of margins in 16.84 secs that needed a photo to decide it. It was her 6th career victory as she continues to climb the ladder towards Grade A. Her next race will happen in Race 4 this Tuesday. Keep a look out for the pride of San Fransisco!

Preakness Stakes
When there is a huge Triple Crown race coming up, you can expect ginormous interest not only in the horse racing world, but with greyhound racing as well. Last weekend for the Kentucky Derby, large crowds flocked to Palm Beach to watch and wager to the tune of 2.5 million dollars. This same type of weekend can be expected for the Preakness, which is just tremendous for both sports. If Nyquist can pull another win as expected, the Belmont weekend will have the Kennel Club busting at the seams with anticipation. Lets hope that happens.
That's all for this week! We'll see you next Sunday for the Wrap-Up.
