Palm Beach Weekly Wrap Up 5/8/2016

May 9th, 2016

Another week in the books!  Lets get to the top stories we saw from this past weeks racing scene at "The Beach."

Derby Day

The entire sport of racing gets energized when the Kentucky Derby weekend gets rolling.  Not only was there a near record crowd in Louisville, huge crowds came out to Palm Beach to watch some of the greatest superstars in South Florida.  Over $2.5 million bucks was handled from Friday to Sunday, including over a million wagered on Saturday. Saturday's card was one of the best of the season, featuring eight top grade features that included many of the best talent at the track.

Anybody that says there isn't interest in greyhound racing can look at this past weekend and be humbled immediately.

*Wiki White Flash*

Mothers Day Feature

One of my favorite trophy races all season long.  Palm Beach lines up many of the top female sprinters against each other in a winner take all holiday showdown.

This year, Wiki White Flash from the Douglas Kennel was able to overpower her competition to the tune of a 29.91 secs victory.  Flash who is the sister to famous brother Wiki Ray Donovan will be one to watch out for heading into the summer racing season. Could White Flash end up being the surprise star of her family?

Atascocita Camry

I don't think even the car was ever this fast or reliable.

All that V6 power of Atascocita Camry continues to roll, as the pride of Suncoast Racing hammered home her 6th straight win on the 660 yard "Rhonda Course" in typical box to wire fashion Saturday.  No current middle distance athlete looks to be on the level that Camry is right now.  If she keeps this pace up for the next month and a half, Camry could be coming home with some hardware at seasons finish.

*Ethel Is Here*

Season Track Championship Wins Chase

1. Ethel Is Here  25 Wins

2. Kb's Like A Fox 25 Wins

3. Barts Dublin 23 Wins

4. Atascocita Camry 23 Wins

5. Superior Tyson 22 Wins

Last year, we had a two dog race with Kb's Like A Fox (pictured) & JS SpeedyPebbles going down to the wire for the championship.  As you can see, this year there's five!  With Ethel Is Here the only one on this list resting, we could have one wild shoot out for this chase, with any of the 5 having a legit chance at glory.

Each week will get even more tense as the season winds down with every start by these top stars being crucial.  I'm pumped to watch how this all plays out.

Huge Long Shot

There's lighting up the tote board....and then there's this.

At 41-1 odds, #4 PJ Ride With Me from the Agganis Kennel shocked the playing public in Wednesday's Matinee by flying out of the super sprint box and coasting home for victory in 16.99 secs. The gigantic upset paid $84.60 on the $2 win ticket.

Normally you wouldn't even have the opportunity to play a dog at these odds, let alone for it to actually win.  Just shows you just never know what could happen on any given day here.

Flying Russian Continues Winning

Anyone that thought Flying Russian's win in the 20K Puppy Stakes last weekend was a fluke had to be impressed with his win Saturday.  A 30.25 secs comeback Grade A victory in front of a huge crowd for "The Russian" has his team from Rader Racing excited for the future. Could still be headed for Southland Park sometime this year.

Enjoy the racing this week at "The Beach" race fans!  We'll see you next Sunday for the Wrap-Up.
