Palm Beach Weekly Wrap Up 7/31/2016

August 1st, 2016

*Ethel Is Here*

It's the end of July and the story lines are starting to thicken as this new season at the Palm Beach Kennel Club rolls along.  As does every summer, young talent is putting their names on the map as we get even closer to Puppy Stakes action. Plus fans are finding new stars to root for along with their veteran favorites.

Here's the top stories from the previous week at "The Beach."

MooseMania Takes Over South Florida

The Mooooooooooose chants you are hearing at the corner of Belvedere & Congress Avenue are for the rookie sensation that has grown in popularity every time he runs.

MooseIsLoose from the Douglas Kennel stayed unbeaten this season flying to his 7th straight victory in Friday's Matinee finale.  The 29.65 secs win was vintage Moose, jetting out of the starting box immediately to the lead and cruising home.

The only downside for the new star is that his birthday this last Thursday just has him on the outside of the Puppy Stakes eligibility.  All entrants for the Labor Day tourney must be born on August 1st, 2014 or later, with Moose missing by just a few days.

How long can the streak continue?  Palm Beach hasn't seen a double digit win streak since Turbo Razor back in 2011, showing just how competitive this place is and how hard it is to dominate consistently.

Moose is an absolute must watch right now in his quest for early greatness.

"Sensational" Sentinel Is Simply Awesome

When you mention the top hounds at Palm Beach, there may not be a better one going right now then Sentinel.

Ryan Racing's crown jewel has gone bezerk since the summer heated up the track and continued his winning ways Friday by posting his 5th win in 6 starts this season. This success has Sentinel & MooseIsLoose sharing the wins lead after the first month on the racing calendar.

Will Sentinel be at the top of our new Top 10 Rankings when they come out on Tuesday?  Check our Blog or social media feeds for our first 2016-2017 season poll!

BARN Becomes The Kennel...Again!

Thank you to BetAmerica Radio host Jason Beem for chatting with me on Tuesday during the BARN podcast.  We got to discuss the $25,000 greyhound handicapping championship, along with all the recent top news at Palm Beach.

Always a thrill to talk with thoroughbred/harness people who have just found an interest in greyhound racing. The National Championship that we sponsor in January has been an exceptional event that can be promoted all year long, drawing interest from new fans that may have just watched the ponies beforehand.

Ethel Is Heating Up

The co-season champ from last season and all around middle distance greyhound superstar Ethel Is Here from the Janie Carroll Kennel got her second straight win last Tuesday.  Hugging the rail like an experienced champion, she was able to run down the leaders at go time for the 37.88 secs victory.

Easily the most followed athlete here, fans and players will the chance to watch Ethel against a loaded Grade TA field on Monday in the Matinee finale, as she matches up with fellow Track Champion Atascocita Camry, along with upstart 660 yarder Go Bon Kickstart  and "Warrior Princess" sister Lucy Lawless.
Best Greyhound Names At Palm Beach

Announced this week that our 3rd annual Top 10 greyhound racing names at Palm Beach list will come out in mid August.  With the "Queen of Palm Beach" JS SpeedyPebbles retiring last season, we'll have a new champion this year after her two year reign.
Early front runners include MooseIsLoose, B's Ben Dover, Big Red Dog (pictured) Nacho Momma & JustDoInMyThing.  One of the many great things about the sport are the fabulous names that are given to the athletes each year and we are excited to have some fun with them coming up.
That's all we have for this week. See you next time for the Wrap-Up!
