Palm Beach Weekly Wrap Up 8/7/2016
Another great week at "The Beach!" Lets get into the top stories from America's favorite greyhound track.
*Sentinel*
#1 Vs #2
Right on cue with our just released Top 10 Rankings earlier in the week, the top two hounds on it faced off in an epic match up in Tuesday's Matinee between the new #1 Sentinel from Ryan Racing and #2 GV MooseIsLoose.
You don't see races like this often with two greyhounds right at the top of their game except in Stakes Finals here. Sentinel proved to be superior on this day by exploding on the backstretch to win his 6th race of the year.
"The Mooooooooooose" as the fans at Belvedere and Congress Avenue have been calling him finished a disappointing 6th, but responded nicely in his next start on Saturday by winning in an absolute mudder.
Hopefully these superstars are slotted against each other more often as the season goes on, as these two year old phenoms are just tremendous.
The Rivalry
They shared a podium with each other after last season as Track Champs....and they've been going paw to paw ever since.
In what could be the best rivalry we've seen at Palm Beach since super sprinters Bae Sang & Kb's Like A Fox battled back in 2014, Atascocita Camry & Ethel Is Here are on that type of war path currently on the "Rhonda" Course.
On Monday, it was the V6 power of Camry that struck first as she bolted out of the box and ran away with her first victory of the season over Ethel. The 37.85 secs middle distance W was vintage Camry, taking the lead and keeping her competition in her dust storms.
On Sunday, it was Ethel's turn for revenge, as she tailed Camry all around the track before taking over around the final turn for the 38.16 secs W. That's now 3 wins in her last 4 races for the Derby Champ.
Two of the premiere racers in the country going head to head on a regular basis. That is a story line that is going to be unbelievable to follow all season long.
Goodbye To The Blu Too Kennel
On Wednesday it was announced that the Blu Too Kennel will be closing its doors at the Kennel Club. Blu Too had only been at Palm Beach for a few years, but made a huge impact on the industry immediately. They were more innovative with the promotion of their team then any other I've seen in the business. Daily photos of the greyhounds on Facebook from birth to retirement had fans flocking to their page and becoming fans of "The Little Kennel That Could."
With this development, all of Blu Too's talent now heads over to the Royal Racing Team. Top hounds Blu Too Tarmac (pictured) and brother Ataree will lead the way in what could be an absolute score for Royal. Royal hasn't won a major title at Palm since 2014 with Flying Zinc in the Derby but that may all be changing with the Grade A firepower that just arrived.
Good luck to the ladies of Blu Too in your next endeavors. Hopefully other teams in the future will show off their kennels on social media like they did because it's great overall for the sport of greyhound racing.
*Kinda Cruel Red*
Palm Beach Alumni Burning Up Other Tracks
Remember that old saying we heard that said Palm Beach dogs couldn't run against the best in the country at other tracks? Well that myth has certainly been squashed these past few years.
After strong showings by Rob Gronkowski, Storm Control and Pat C Short Cut nationally, two others are making an impact around the country this season.
Kinda Cruel Red who ran for the Janie Carroll Kennel in the Sprint Puppy Stakes Final transferred to Wheeling Island in West Virginia and has been lighting it up since early July with 4 straight AA wins and an 85% board hitting percentage. Red is brother to Go Big Or GoHome who is currently running at Palm.
Super Sprint record holder Craigie Renegade has continued his strong campaign at top paying track Southland Park in Arkansas with 10 victories this season and will be a strong favorite for major greenage in the $1.2 million dollar Festival of Stakes Event happening in October.
Fastest Billboard Ever Wins Again
Our girl BetOn BetAmerica found the winners circle for the first time this season on Wednesday with a narrow 16.79 secs super sprint victory. Nice work! As always, she reminds us that BetAmerica is a great place to wager.
That's all we have for this week. See you next time for the Wrap-Up!
