Pick 3 of the Week: Colonial Downs Saturday, August 15

A trio of black-type tilts will make up an all-stakes Pick 3 at Colonial Downs on Saturday. 

Race 7 Wager

• $1 Pick 3: 2,5 with 5,6,8 with 4,7,8,9 ($24

Race 7 – Meadow Stable H. 

A big cast of 10 will dash 5 1/2 panels on the outer lawn in the first leg. I have a hard time seeing past the top two on the morning line in the tilt and will use defending champ #2 Whenigettoheaven (5-2) and excellent turf dasher #5 Determined Kingdom (2-1) to kick things off. 

Race 8 – Find S. 

Nine males will jaunt 1 1/16 miles on the inner lawn in the middle piece of the wager. This race also seems quite logical, with three that stand out to me in the tussle. The $1.5 million earner #5 Gigante (1-1) has the back class and has also endured prior success on the course for Steve Asmussen. The durable six-year-old has been in solid form in advance of the tilt and will have Johan Rosado on board. 

#6 Gramp's Legacy (9-2) was a measured winner on the course in his first turf route last time, and I think that he has more to offer going forward. The gelded sophomore faces tougher in this event for sure, but I expect him to be in the mix late under Sheldon Russell. Derek Ryan’s #8 Thundering (9-5) was third in the United Nations (G2) at Monmouth last time and will appreciate the move in with restricted runners, with Paco Lopez in the silks. 

Race 9 – All Brandy S. 

A group of 11 fillies and mares will go 1 1/16 miles on the outer turf surface in the final stakes race of the afternoon. I feel that the closing piece is more up for grabs for the most part and will spread in the affair hoping for a decent price. The Lindsay Schultz-conditioned #7 Pink Ruby (8-1) is my top pick in her grassy debut. By Connect, the filly went close in a black-type event on the main oval last time and will transition to the green second off the shelf. The lass is kin to a trio of winners on the lawn and is a good number with Sonny Leon riding.

Also making the ticket will be morning-line choice #8 Day to Day (8-5), Hugh McMahon’s #4 Boujee Bubblez (10-1), Michael Trombetta’s #9 Amie’s Symphony (7-2).
