Pick 3 of the Week: Gulfstream Park Saturday, May 9

May 7th, 2026

The pair of Royal Ascot qualifying races for juveniles will be a major part of my Pick 3 of the Week from Gulfstream Park on Saturday.

Race 6 Wager:

  • $1 Pick 3: 8 with 2,5,6 with all ($27)

Race 6 – Royal Palm Juvenile S.

A cast of nine two-year-olds will zip five-eighths on the lawn in the first black-type race of the day. #8 Skara Brae (8-5) led throughout as a heavy favorite on the Keeneland dirt on debut and will be the one to catch and beat. The Wesley Ward pupil is bred to love the green, and the $120,000 daughter of Golden Pal gets a fine draw near the outside with superstar pilot Joao Moreira inheriting the mount. She is my single while facing the boys in the first leg of the sequence.

Race 7 – Claiming

Fillies and mares will go two turns on the all-weather in the middle portion of the play. Carlos David will send out #5 Pocket Pair (2-1) for her first run off the claim, and she brings some decent form to the race. The Catalina Cruiser four-year-old will rally from off the pace with Miguel Vasquez signed on.

#2 Divine Blue (10-1) is the inside pace of the race and takes a big class drop in the affair. The Sano pupil doesn’t have much current form to speak of, but the plunge down to this level could wake the daughter of Constitution up with Camacho in the silks. Weaver’s #6 Furys Charm (8-1) stretches out from a dash for her third run off the shelf and wouldn’t be a surprise beneath Torrealba. She was a maiden winner going long on the course two back.

Race 8 – Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies S.

Nine young fillies will go postward in the closing piece, and this is an exciting group from top to bottom. My top pick in the grassy dash is #5 Pros and Cons (12-1), one of two in the field for trainer Mark Casse, but I wouldn’t be surprised by any result in the heat and will use the ‘all’ button to close out the wager.
