Pick 3 of the Week: Kentucky Downs Saturday, September 5

A great three-race sequence led by a pair of Grade 2 tilts will make up the Pick 3 of the Week at Kentucky Downs on Saturday. 

Race 5 Wager

• 50-cent Pick 3: 1,3,6,8,9 with 1,4,7,10 with 1,6,7,10 ($40)

Race 5 – Maiden Special Weight

An overflow field of 14 is entered for the 6 1/2 furlong grassy dash for the boys in a challenging first leg of the play. #9 Quintillion (10-1) has seemingly got it right this season with a pair of solid tries off the long layoff and has great value in a winnable heat. The Darrin Miller pupil will make his run from well off the early tempo beneath Adam Beschizza. 

Mike Maker’s #8 Wexford One (6-1) was a runner-up on the strip last season and has seemingly pointed towards this race for his initial run since February. The Bill Mott-conditioned #6 Jubilee Parade (9-2) is quite logical, as are #1 Red Square (4-1) and #3 Blazing Tiger (7-2), as well. 

Race 6 – Turf Sprint (G2)

A full field of dashers will run six panels in a deep middle leg of the sequence. I’ll use multiple runners in the heat starting from the rail with #1 Troubleshooting (3-1). The Not This Time colt is winless from a trio of tries in 2026, but the four-year-old is a Grade 1 victor on the course and will be a major threat in his local return beneath regular pilot Tyler Gaffalione. 

#4 Beach Gold (20-1) was third in the Mint Millions (G3) on the surface last campaign and could thrive on the cutback in distance at a huge price. Five-time turf stakes winner #7 Unusually Wrong (12-1) is six-for-nine in his lifetime on the sod and is a generous price for his local bow. Champion #10 My Boy Prince (9-2) put in a big rally to win the Van Clief S. at Colonial most recently and makes a ton of sense for Casse. 

Race 7 – Turf Cup Invitational (G2)

I considered making #7 Burnham Square (2-1), the top turf stayer in the U. S., a single, but the European invaders are too dangerous to omit in the final leg of the play. In addition to the Grade 1 winner from the Ian Wilkes barn who was a narrow second in the Nashville Derby (G3) on the course in his grassy debut in 2025, I will use Group 1 heroine #1 Tiffany (9-2), Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) hero #6 Ethical Diamond (3-1), and recent Bowling Green (G2) second #10 Fort George (9-2), to conclude the play.
