Three of the four black-type events hosted by Turfway Park on Saturday will comprise the Pick 3 of the Week.
Race 6 Wager
- $1 Pick 3: 2,7 with 2,3,4,7 with 2,3,5,12 ($32)
Race 6 – My Charmer S.
A total of 11 fillies and mares will travel eight furlongs on the Tapeta to get things started. The 2024 King’s Plate queen, #2 Caitlinhergrtness (7-5), is the one to beat and a must-use in the opening leg. The Omaha Beach four-year-old has really good form coming into the affair and should thrive in her first local appearance. The chestnut will have Flavien Prat in the controls and will be one of two I'll use to commence the play.
If the top pick fails to fire her best shot, then I would expect #7 Vina Arana (12-1) to capitalize from off the pace. The Jack Sisterson trainee was an impressive allowance winner on the grass at Churchill Downs in her second run of the season, and the Irish-bred might have the best turn of foot in the cast, too. Adam Beschizza will be in the silks.
Race 7 – Holiday Inaugural S.
Fillies and mares will dash six panels on the main strip with a full field signed on. The majority of the field owns at least one stakes win to date in this difficult handicapping assignment. The 2024 Glen Cove S. vixen #2 Ellen Jay (7-2), recent Bessarabian (G3) star #3 Pondering (5-2), #4 Lithe Spirit (10-1), who is unbeaten from three prior runs on the oval, and Brendan Walsh’s #7 Civetta (10-1) are the four that I will use in the middle piece of the play.
Race 8 – Prairie Bayou S.
A full field of boys will travel one mile in the closing part of the sequence. #2 Horsepower (8-1) has shown nice improvement this season and could be dangerous at a fair price for conditioner Joe Orseno. The gelding ran well at the distance on the grass at Aqueduct most recently and comes in fresh for his local debut under Samuel Marin.
The Walsh-trained #3 Cameo Performance (9-2), synthetic standout #5 Dresden Row (4-1), and four-time stakes winner #12 Encino (3-1) will also make the ticket.
