Pick 4 of the Week: Colonial Downs Saturday, March 14, 2026

March 11th, 2026

There is an excellent four-race sequence to close out the big Colonial Downs card on Saturday, led by the $500,000 Virginia Derby.

Race 7 Wager

  • 50-cent Pick 4: 1,4,6,7 with 1,2,3 with 1,5,6,8 with 2,8 ($48)

Race 7 – Sandy Bottom S.

Fillies and mares will run a one-turn mile in the opening leg. #6 Eunomia (6-5) has been very good since getting back on the dirt three back and deserves to be the favorite in the field, but I don’t see her as a single. The Saffie Joseph trainee will surely be in the wager, however, with Flavien Prat in the silks.

Group 3 heroine #1 Queen Azteca (5-1), recent allowance romper #4 Conch Fried Rice (6-1), and Wayward Lass S. runner-up #7 Runaway Diva (5-1) will also make the ticket.

Race 8 – Virginia Oaks

A total of six sophomore fillies will run 1 1/16 miles on the dirt in the second piece of the play. Three in the affair have previously made good in the stakes ranks, and I’ll use each of them in the tilt. The once-beaten #1 Dazzling Dame (5-2) comes off an 11-length romp in the Busanda S. in her seasonal debut and is a must-use for trainer Brittany Russell.

Untapable S. vixen #2 Hit Parade (3-1), and Bob Baffert’s Grade 1 starlet #3 Bottle of Rouge (3-1), are the other two that will be added.

Race 9 – Virginia Derby

A nice cast of 10 three-year-olds will travel 1 1/8 miles on the main oval in the feature. The four most fancied sophomores on the morning line are the ones that interest me most, and each will make their way onto my ticket. I’ll use recent Southwest (G3) third #1 Buetane (5-2), sharp maiden winner #5 High Camp (9-2), fantastic Turfway allowance winner #6 Lockstocknpharoah (5-1), and the Brad Cox-trained #8 Confessional (4-1).

Race 10 – Optional Claiming

An optional claiming race at 1 1/16 miles on the dirt closes out the card and the play. #2 Steeze (9-2) has been sharp while facing some good ones at Gulfstream Park as of late and looks like a fine fit in the field at a fair price. Riley Mott pupil will be forwardly placed from the break with Jaime Torres in the silks.

Fellow Florida import #8 Lure Him In (2-1) has faced tough foes in his last handful of assignments with good results and will appreciate the measure of class relief in this spot. The Khozan gelding was a big winner in his lone run on this course last season and will have Flavien Prat in the irons.
