Pick 4 of the Week: Gulfstream Park Saturday, September 12

Two of the three black-type races on the Saturday card at Gulfstream Park will be included in the Pick 4 of the Week.

Race 7 Wager

• 50-cent Pick 4: 1,2,8 with all with 2,5 with 2,8 ($40)

Race 7 – Maiden Special Weight

A cast of eight juveniles will vie in the seven-furlong dash on the dirt to kick things off. I am not overly enthused about any of the contenders that have a race under their belts, so I will use the pair of Saffie Joseph debuting runners to commence the play. #1 Trailbreezin Joke and #8 Earthly Delights are the ones.  

Race 8 – Ginger Punch H. 

The one-mile tilt on the lawn attracted 10 fillies and mares in the second piece of the wager. I spent a good amount of time on the race and couldn’t get much clarity, as most in the field have run well enough in the past to win. I will use the ‘all’ button in the second leg. 

Race 9 – Princess Rooney (G3)

Seven ladies will speed seven-eighths on the main oval in the feature on the card. #2 Kerry’s Kiss has registered Brisnet Speed ratings of 99 and 98 in a pair of stakes-winning runs since joining the Saffie Joseph barn and will try to go wire-to-wire for the third straight time. The Vino Rosso four-year-old is well placed closer to the rail and will be the one to run down turning for home. 

Joseph’s #5 Indy Bay has been chasing her aforementioned stablemate to no avail in her last two, but she is still a major contender who comes in with a 5-3-1-0 mark at seven panels. I feel that the Take Charge Indy filly could get some help up front to aid her stalking running style beneath Micah Husbands. 

Race 10 – Claiming

A big field of 10 males will run 1 1/16 miles on the grass to close out the challenging play, and I feel comfortable using a pair of runners in the finale. #8 Mister Abarrio takes a massive class drop for Saffie, and while the plunge could look alarming, I have seen this outfit win with this kind of class move on numerous occasions in the past. 

#2 Mythical Man could be the pace of the race in a first start for Barboza and is worth using for sure. The Mucho Macho Man four-year-old has a hint of back class and has also won or placed in four of five career runs on the local green, too.
