Pick 4 of the Week: Laurel Park Saturday, June 20, 2025

June 20th, 2025

The Pick 4 of the Week will come from Laurel Park on Saturday, and I will take aim at the closing four-race sequence, which includes the pair of black-type tilts on the card.

Race 6 Wager

  • $1 Pick 4: 1,5,6,8,9 with 3,7 with 1,2,5 with 8 ($30)

Race 6 – Ben’s Cat S.

An overflow field of 16 has been entered for the six-furlong heat on the sod, and I’ll spread to get things started. #1 Crabs N Beer (8-1) has both back class as well as good prior experience at this venue, and the gelding cuts back sharply in distance as an intriguing contender from the rail. Jorge Ruiz will ride.

#5 Tidewater (6-1) was a close runner-up in the heat last season and had a nice prep for the run at Pimlico most recently. Anthony Aguirre's pupil will have Sheldon Russell up. #6 Had to Have Him (8-1), horse to beat #8 Determined Kingdom (3-1), and defending champ #9 Whenigettoheaven (5-2), will also make the ticket.

Race 7 – Optional Claiming

Two-turn test on the main oval for the boys attracted seven with #7 Inveigled (9-5) as the sure one to beat. Enticed gelding has been facing some good ones as of late and has won or placed in each of his four career runs at the meeting. The Jane Cibelli trainee rates a big chance with Jevian Toledo in the silks.

#3 Cadet Corps (5-2) is the main threat to the morning-line choice for Kelly Breen. Will Take Charge gelding has good form since being claimed by this outfit three back and draws well to save ground throughout the race. Mychel Sanchez will ride.

Race 8 – Jameela S.

A six-furlong turf dash for fillies and mares attracted a solid field of nine. The top-three finishers of the race last season are all on board, and a strong case can be made for each of them. Defending champ #1 Alla Breve (2-1) will make her first run of the campaign for Michael Matz and comes in with a nifty 7-5-0-1 line on the surface. Mendelssohn chestnut will be doing her best work late beneath Karamanos.

#2 Hollywood Walk (9-2) finished a good third in the License Fee S. at Aqueduct in her 2025 bow and rates a chance with expected improvement. Michael Trombetta trainee retains the services of Mychel Sanchez. #5 Bosserati (5-2) is a dual stakes victress on the course and missed by just a neck when third in the contest in 2024. She was last seen leading at every call in The Very One S. at Pimlico in her five-year-old debut.

Race 9 – Maiden Claiming

Fillies and mares will look for a first victory in a six-furlong dash in the finale. Second-time starter #8 Great Moon (7-2) ran evenly in a special weight affair at Charles Town at first asking and lands in a cast with little depth on this day. The Phil Capuano trainee was well backed on debut and retains the services of Lyapustina. She’s my single to close out the play.
