Pick 4 of the Week: Woodbine Saturday

June 27th, 2025

A total of five graded stakes events will be hosted by Woodbine on Saturday, with four of them comprising the Pick 4 of the Week to close out the huge card.

Race 7 Wager

40-cent Pick 4: 1,5 with 1,2,5 with 1,2,5,7,8 with 4,10,12 ($36)

Race 7 – Selene S. (G3)

An interesting cast of eight sophomore fillies will go 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic in the first leg of the sequence. The 2024 Mazzarine S. (G3) heroine #1 Somethinabouther (2-1) has a big closing kick in a field full of pace and is my top pick in the opening leg. The Walsh trainee had a nice prep for this and is well drawn on the rail to save ground throughout.

#5 Serendipity (5-2) is the wildcard in the group, making her first synthetic appearance and a first run for Josie Carroll. The speedy daughter of Street Sense obviously has ability, and she could be any kind beneath Hernandez.

Race 8 – Highlander S. (G2)

An exciting and accomplished field of eight will run six panels on the green in the second leg of the wager. A pair of Canadian champions will lead the way in the $200,000 dash. Mark Casse’s #1 My Boy Prince (5-2) was a fine second in a tough field in the Jaipur S. (G1) at Saratoga second off the shelf and could peak third time back. The gray has recorded two big runs in 2025 and will be in the hunt from the start under Civaci.

Reigning Canadian Horse of the Year #5 Patches O’Houlihan (6-5) is a superb 12-for-15 lifetime, which includes a two-for-three mark on the course led by a tally in the Nearctic S. (G2) in the fall for Robert Tiller. The Reload gelding has been working in rapid fashion in advance of this one and will be the likely one to catch turning for home with Sofia Vives on board.

If the top duo decides to clash early and often in the tilt, which is very possible, then #2 Playmea Tune (9-2) will benefit most for Josie Carroll. The Chiefswood homebred is full of talent and might possess the best turn of foot in the group, too.

Race 9 – Dominion Day S. (G3)

A competitive cast of seven boys and one mare will go 1 1/8 miles on the main surface in the third piece. #8 Classic Mo Town (4-1) defeated a good field in the Eclipse S. (G2) on the grounds most recently and will be tough with even slight improvement on Saturday. The Drexler pupil will be rolling home from well off the early tempo beneath Eswan Flores.

The 2024 Marine S. (G3) winner #7 Essex Serpent (5-2), Wesley Ward’s #5 Funtastic Again (2-1), and the Attard duo of #1 Bail Us Out (8-1) and #2 Fashionably Fab (6-1), will also make the ticket.

Race 10 – Nassau S. (G2)

A dozen fillies and mares will travel one mile on the green in the finale. Canadian classic heroine #4 Caitlinhergrtness (2-1) was a resounding winner of the Belle Mahone S. (G3) on the Tapeta in her 2025 debut and looms large second time back for Kevin Attard. The Omaha Beach filly was a winner in her lone previous attempt on this sod, and the Grade-1 placed four-year-old is a must use with Hernandez retaining the ride.

If the classy filly fails to fire her best shot, I’ll look to either Chad Brown’s #10 Sweet Rebecca (3-1) or recent Gallorette S. (G3) runner-up #12 Austere (6-1) to register the upset.
