Pick 4 of the Week: Woodbine Saturday, August 15

A fun and challenging four-race sequence flooded with stakes contests will be the Pick 4 of the Week at Woodbine on Saturday. 

Race 6 Wager

• 20-cent Pick 4: 2,5,6,7,8 with 4,5,6,8 with 6 with all ($40)

Race 6 – Soaring Free S. 

Four two-year-old fillies and four juvenile colts will dash 6 1/2 panels on the turf to commence the wager in a tough opening leg. I liked the professional debut win put in by Kevin Attard’s #2 Quipster on June 28 and will give him the slight nod in the heat. The $200,000 son of Practical Joke showed both early foot and a closing kick in his Tapeta debut, and I expect him to transition to the sod with relative ease under Pietro Moran.

#5 Uncle Dodo comes off a game score in the Victoria S. on the all-weather surface most recently and is bred to like the green for conditioner Barbara Minshall. The Uncle Mo colt could be moving best of all in the stretch with Romero Maragh in the silks. #6 Speaker’s Speech, an $875,000 April purchase, is kin to a turf winner and will be formidable if he races to his price tag in his unveiling for Casse. Strong debut heroine #7 De la Renta and Wesley Ward’s #8 Through the Years will also make the ticket.

Race 7 – Bold Venture (G3)

A well-matched field of eight will run 6 1/2 furlongs on the all-weather strip in the second leg. I’ll go four-deep in the heat with #4 Its Bourbon Thirty, #5 G T Five Hundred, #6 Western Whirl, and #8 Notorious Gangster. 

Race 8 – Canadian (G2)

A soft group of seven fillies and mares will travel 1 1/16 miles on the sod in the third piece of the play. #6 Proctor Street has gone close in a trio of graded races this campaign and exits a very deep cast at Saratoga last time out. The Street Sense five-year-old will improve second off the layoff and loves the trip, evidenced by her 7-4-1-0 mark at the distance. 

Race 9 – Catch A Glimpse S. 

Two-year-old fillies will jaunt 6 1/2 furlongs on the green in the closing leg with 10 lassies signed on. The grassy dash features numerous well-bred and talented ladies from good connections, and utilizing the ‘all’ button will be my best course of action to conclude the play.
