Plante Has Hot Hand at Rosecroft on Cool Tuesday Card

November 16th, 2016

Of the more than 100 horses that arrived at Rosecroft Raceway on Tuesday evening only a dozen would find the winner's circle, but five of them had something human in common.

In the third race on the card, In Front Charlie posted a mild upset when he captured a non-winners of $2500 last five starts class for pacers. A seven-year-old Up Front Charlie gelding owned and trained by Brittany Bounds, In Front Charlie was the first of four straight winners and five overall on the night for catch driver Roger Plante, Jr.

In the very next race on the card, Plante steered I Am Delightful prevailed in a similar class for trotters for trainer Mark Gray. Then one race later Plante guided Justa Party Animal to a handy score in 1:56.2 in a non-winners of two races lifetime class for younger pacers for trainer Amanda Jackson.
Plante continued his hot hand one race later by steering Diamondkeeper to a determined victory in 1:52.3 in the featured "Winners Over" class for aged pacers. A five-year-old Pine Valley gelding owned and trained by Basil Sapienza, Diamondkeeper notched his 11th win in 33 starts this year and pushed his seasonal earnings past $72,000.

Plante's grand slam streak came to a halt in the next race, but in the penultimate event on the card he guided Dancing Rusty to a two-length score in a non-winners of $2500 last five starts class for older pacers. An eight-year-old Ponder gelding owned and trained by Sapienza, Dancing Rusty now owns a 6-2-5 slate and $27,500 bankroll from 32 starts this year after getting the mile in a seasonal best 1:53.1.

Wednesday morning post positions will be drawn for the inaugural $100,000 Potomac Pace for aged pacers next Tuesday, Nov. 22, a race expected to attract Shamballa, Mach It So, Mel Mara, Keystone Velocity, Dealt A Winner, Split The House and All The Bets Off and another participant and the entire group has combined earnings of over $7 million.
