Player Pick: Santa Anita Pick 6 for 6/5/14
Pick 6 carryover of $129,366 on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Santa Anita and here is one suggested play. The ticket uses two singles with some coverage in the other four races. The sequence starts in race three, post time 5:04 pm ET.
SCREAMING OF SKYLAR was a $550,000 purchase at the Ocala Breeders' Sale in March and can kick off her career and the pick 6 with a win. Perhaps the only "negative" is her breeding. The daugther of Smart Strike is a half to Bel Air Beauty, who broke her maiden in the Grade 1 Alcibiades at Keeneland. Her sire, Smart Strike, was a grade 1 winner around two turns and his progeny get stronger as the race gets longer. Others to consider are HEART OF PARADISE, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer and jockey Corey Nakatani teamed up to win a two-year-old race already this meet, and CHAMPION RISK for trainer Doug O'Neill, who has won two baby races this meet. The dam of HEART OF PARADISE, Paradise Playgirl, won her debut at Saratoga by seven lengths in 2008. If BENNETT JEAN takes money then she is live, even though her trainer is not known to have them fully cranked for the debut. In the last five years Ted West has run eight first-timers with zero wins. He has only started one debut two-year-old, which finished third in a race at Del Mar in 2011.
Race four is a perfect spot for a single and top billing goes to the Tom Proctor-trained THEATRE STAR. The daughter of War Front is coming off a fourth place finish in the Grade 3 Wilshire, a race that she was favored, but set a wicked pace early and faded late. Her start two back was awesome and a repeat of that would put her in the winner's circle. The only concern is the presence of other pace.
MISS WELL MOLDED is going to be a popular single in race six on smaller tickets, but there is enough form on paper from some of the other fillies and mares to suggest this may be a spot to upset the favorite. TIZ A KISS and VAN DIEN AVENUE, two off-the-pace runners, get the call. There should be adequate speed in the race to set it up for a closer even with the rails at 24 feet.
Other plays on the card are WINE COUNTRY WANDA, LUST FOR LIFE and NONNA ROSE in race five, FIT TO RULE in race seven and in the finale, HOBBITS HERO and NUMBER FIVE.

5, 6, 8 / 2 / 2, 3, 8 / 2 4 8 / 2 / 3 7
Total Cost: $108
