Player Quick Pick: Monmouth for 6/7/2014

Monmouth race 12 | 6:26 pm ET Crank It Up Stakes for 3 yo F going 5.5 f (T)

Who says all the big races are at Belmont today?  Here’s a nice little 3 year old fillies turf sprint stakes that will go off a half hour prior to California Chrome winning the Triple Crown.

MOST PROBABLE WINNER: 2-Knit One Purr Two

In the epitome of “draw a line through that last race”, Knit One Purr Two (who owns one of the best names in racing) is your most probable winner of the Crank It Up Stakes at Monmouth today.  She absolutely did not fire in The Very One Stakes on Preakness Day at Pimlico.  She finished fifth, marking the first time she failed to finish first or second in her 6 race career.  Even with a sub-par effort again today, she should have enough to be the winner.  Look for to get to the lead ASAP, and never look back.  Maybe a wire-to-wire winner.

VALUE HORSE: 4-Tea Time

Tea Time is making her third start off the long layoff, and if she can retain some of the form she showed as a two year old, she very well could win this race.  In her 2 year old debut, she came in third, about 6 lengths behind Sweet Whiskey.  In her second start, she beat Euphrosyne by 3-¼ lengths.  Both of those horses are running in the Acorn Stakes at Belmont today, so Tea Time has proven she can run with, compete, and beat some of the top fillies in this division.  If she can run her race like she did in the Sharp Cat Stakes, where she beat Miss Behaviour (who won last month’s Miss Preakness Stakes the day before the Preakness), she should pay handsomely.  Box her in an exacta with Knit One Purr Two.  Play along with Knit One Purr Two in multi-race bets.

OTHERS TO CONSIDER: 9-Sweet Emma Rose and 10-Puddifoot

Sweet Emma Rose did not fare so well in her American stakes race debut last time out.  She was a beaten favorite (she’s been the favorite in 4 of her 6 career starts) who really showed nothing.  If we can draw a line through Knit One Purr Two’s last race, we can also do it here for Sweet Emma Rose (note: Knit One Purr Two won this race, followed by Hot Squeeze, who races here today, and the previously-mentioned Miss Behaviour).  This filly does have some black type, however, placing in the G2 Queen Mary Stakes at Ascot last June.  Play her in exotics.

Puddifoot rounds out your exotics, and can make a case for going 3-for-3 lifetime, after winning her first two races last year, including the Juvenile Filly Sprint Stakes at Gulfstream last time out in September of last year.  Obviously the question becomes, “can she fire fresh off the long layoff?”  Her work tabs point to yes.
