Player Quick Pick: Oaklawn for 4/6/2014

There is a chance of rain at Oaklawn Park, but that shouldn’t affect either one of these races too much.
Oaklawn Park 7 | 5:14 pm ET Optional Claiming (25) for 3&up going 1-1-16 mi.
6 – Justa Runner – D. Wayne Lukas now trains this $300,000 buy sired by Indian Charlie. Things haven’t really panned out for this guy since he’s gone from Bob Baffert to Steve Asmussen and he still hasn’t done anything all that great. Now, he’s with Lukas who only wins 3% with his stretch out runners, but Justa Runner should get the lead and the track at Oaklawn can favor speed at times. Who knows? Without any pressure, he could wire this field.
11 – Prosecution – Trainer Brad Cox wins 28% with his horses first after the claim. That’s the set-up that he’s getting with this five-year-old gelded son of A.P. Indy. Cox claimed this guy for $16,000 and now moves him up to the $25K level. Putting speed rider Jon Court on Prosecution’s back is a good thing since Prosecution’s only chance is to not get hung out 4 or 5 wide around the first turn. All of the signs point to this 12 to 1 morning line shot to run well in this race.
10 – Lasting Impact – Lasting Impact’s Paul Holthus has only run horses at Oaklawn Park this year. I suppose I would too if I won at 35%. Holthus really knows how to spot his horses. So, if one of his equines shows up in a race, horseplayers had better pay attention. He’s yet another at a crazy morning line with a shot in this extremely competitive event.

2 – Ms Anna Destiny – This will be her third race off of a layoff, a 38% winning move for Brad Cox. She also just ran a 4 furlong work in :46.1 on March 30. It was the best workout at the distance out of 64. What it means is that she’s definitely on her toes. The two chalks, Speedinthruthecity and Airofdistinction could both run right to the front meaning that this six-year-old mare should be in the perfect position to pounce once they turn for home.
3 – Speedinthruthecity – This City Zip filly has won 3 of 4. The only loss was a third place finish in the Grade 3 Azalea at Calder last July. She was on the bench for a long time, but the race on March at Oaklawn, where she destroyed a group of decent allowance runners by 5 ¾ lengths, is a sign that she’s back in fine form. A repeat of that race isn’t out of the question making her a tough one to leave off of any tickets.
6 – Aireofdistinction – Horses don’t win 4 races in a row unless they’re very good. That’s exactly what this Steve Asmussen trainee has done. A victory in this is not assured, though, since Speedinthruthecity, the other Asmussmen, is better than anything else she’s ever faced. Expect better than the 6/5 morning line if you like her.
