G1 American Oaks for 3yo fillies going 1-1/4 mi (T)
Same name, new course as the Grade 1 American Oaks will be run for the first time at Santa Anita after a storied history across town at Hollywood Park. This year's field is stellar, led by multiple graded stakes winner, NASHOBA'S GOLD. As a half-sister to Nashoba's Key, NASHOBA'S GOLD had the pedigree to be a good one and she has not disappointed. She has run four times in her career with three wins and one second. The only blemish was when she ran behind DIVERSY HARBOR, who is also in the American Oaks. DIVERSY HARBOR is likely to be overlooked on Saturday. The daughter of Curlin has lost her last two to NASHOBA'S GOLD, but is a classy filly and could be worth a bet if allowed to go off at or higher than her morning line of 4-1. The two California fillies look tough, but there are plenty of challengers, including a pair from the East. LITTLE JOURNEY finished a good third in the Edgewood Stakes at Churchill on Kentucky Oaks day and will improve. ROOM SERVICE is the 2-1 second choice off of her dead-heat win in the Grade 1 Ashland over the Polytrack at Keeneland in April. That was her second graded stakes win after scoring a two-length victory back in March in the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride at Gulfstream Park. She is a deep closer and will be doing her best running late. It should be a great stretch drive.
