Player Quick Pick: Santa Anita for 6/7/14

June 7th, 2014

Santa Anita 9 | 7:00 pm ET G3 Affirmed for 3yo going 1-1/16 mi

While the California-bred California Chrome tackles the historic Triple Crown in New York, the three-year-olds in California will try to get the second half of the season started on a high note in the Grade 3 Affirmed, which will be run for the first time at Santa Anita. The last time BIG TIRE was seen, he was finishing ten lengths behind California Chrome in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby, but that running line looks pretty good in the Affirmed. Two starts back he broke his maiden with a good figure and has been working steadily over the last month. It may be a small knock, but he was not seen on the work tab until a month after the Santa Anita Derby. CAN THE MAN is making his first start since October, but is trained by Bob Baffert and he can get them ready to roll off the layoff. He may be best; however, as a sprinter. His only "bad" race was in the two-turn Front Runner over the track last September. Those two look strong, but the one horse that may be worth a bet if he drifts up in price is FRIENDSWITH K MILL. The Doug O'Neill barn is hitting at 26% at the current meet and he is a closer in a race that came up with a lot of speed. Must use in any pick 3, pick 4 or pick 6 wager. The upsetter is LOLO EL CANONERO, the Kentucky-bred son of Irish-bred Street Cry out of a French-bred mare that began his career in Peru. He has had two even runs stateside and may be ready to show his best on Saturday.
