Player Quick Pick: Woodbine for 6/11/2014
by Molly Jo Rosen
So there's a $87,167 Jackpot Hi5 at Woodbine tonight... the Hi5 is the only wager I've never hit in my entire handicapping career and - jackpot (ie: single ticket) or not - it's my mission to take one down this year.
Famous last words as a handicapper: why not now?
All we have to do is pick the first five finishers across the line correctly. And - to take down the pool in this case - have the only winning ticket. Let's just worry about the first part first!
Woodbine race 7 | 9:41 pm ET Maiden (8 - 7.5) for 3&up going 7f (A)
1-Tiger Hall: plummets in class from the 25k maiden ranks
2-Straight Right: cuts back from routing at 1-1/16 mi., but last time sprinting wasn't exactly successful (11th beaten 14 lengths, though that was against state-bred MSW company)
3-Foresters Affair: plummets from state-bred MSW company off the layoff
4-King Dyal: found home at this level off the layoff last time out
5-Mr. Gee Cee: small barn sends first-timer off slow works
6-Catch the Secret: speed has to hold on after just missing last out
7-Queensbury Rules: could 30th's time be the charm?!?
8-Krz Brew: last time sprinting was against state-bred MSW company
9-Alphadel: speed has to stop fading
What an interesting race!
You have to use 3-Foresters Affair getting the big class drop off the layoff and 6-Catch the Secret for the speed-holding-on angle. I'm just not ready to use 7-Queensbury Rules anywhere near the top two: how many chances can ya get? The 4-King Dyal gets a second chance after finishing well off the layoff last time. And maybe use the 5-Mr. Gee Cee underneath, even if Cappuccitti is 0-for-7 on debut and is yet to have a winner this meet.
Picks: 3 - 6 - 4 - 7 - 5
