Playing Saturday’s Gulfstream Pick 5 Carryover

A $40,342 Pick 5 carryover awaits horse players at Gulfstream Park and any time spent handicapping turf form is worthless as the three turf races in Pick 5 sequence (races 7-11) have been moved to the wet main track.

Here are my thoughts on the races:

7^th: #3 Salute With Honor posted a convincing win first-out on a sloppy track and exits a third in a turf stakes. Looks formidable as inside speed with Paco Lopez. #15 Tapwrit, a $1.2 million yearling purchase, exits a maiden tally at Gulfstream Park West and is bred to relish wet tracks. #1 Contormar will be running late, could benefit from hot/contested pace in short field.

8^th: #9 Recruiting Ready exits a third to Not This Time in 1 1/16-mile Iroquois (G3) on a muddy track. Should relish the cut back in distance, running big in all three efforts sprinting, including a close second to presumptive champion Classic Empire in the Bashford Manor (G3) at today’s 6-furlong trip, and he is well-drawn on outside. Viable single. #5 My Carrots and #7 Talk Logistics could be along in time if speed falters.

9^th: #4 Basha is my top choice, previewed his chances in a Friday handicapping feature at Brisnet.com. The scratch of expected pacesetter Sweetontheladies makes #7 Storming My Way the one to catch, will use the speedster as a back-up.

10^th: Eight runners remain in the off-the-turf event and I’ll use “all” on a ticket. #2 Bahama Gal exits a nice win on turf, is bred for main track and should be forward from post 2 for Pletcher/Saez. #8 Party Boat and #13 Paz the Bourbon also in with a chance from just off pace.

11^th: #12 Misty Ballerina appears well-spotted for Casse, bred to relish wet tracks and showed good speed in last sprint attempt. Expect #13 Backseat Driver to improve off debut. #4 Holidejavu and #5 Lago Lindo also worthy of consideration.
