I will go after the closing three-race sequence at Santa Anita on Saturday.
Race 8
- $3 Pick 3: 4,11,13 with 1,4 with 3,6 ($36)
Race 8 – Claiming
A deep cast of 13 will travel six panels on the dirt to commence the play. Jeff Bonde’s #4 Darlin Tami (9-2) could relish the return to the dirt and the class drop, as one to use in the first leg. The daughter of Tamarando broke her maiden on the surface and will be closer to the pace with the class relief.
#11 Busy Making Munny (4-1) showed speed going long in two straight at Del Mar, and now gets back to sprinting at this venue for McCanna. The four-year-old Munnings filly will have Tiago Pereira in the silks. #13 Mischievous Bev (7-2) broke her maiden with authority on the oval two back and might be the one to beat despite drawing widest of all for Kitchingman.
Race 9 – California Flag H.
A very good field of seven Cal-bred runners will dash 6 1/2 panels down the hill in a difficult middle portion of the wager. #1 Lonesome Slew (6-5) is two-for-two at this unique distance and comes off of a convincing score in a solid allowance field at Del Mar on Aug. 22. The Grazen gelding is four-for-six lifetime on the turf and is a must-use.
#4 Flyover (4-1) is the inside pace of the race and has also endured success on the course and distance for John Sadler. The Om five-year-old will be sent from the break with Jaramillo in the silks.
Race 10 – Optional Claiming
Turf tilt for the boys attracted 10 to close out the play. I’ll go two deep in the finale led by longshot contender #6 Beyond Stoked (10-1). The George Papaprodromou pupil will make his second run off the claim in his local bow, and the gelding has some back class to him, too. I expect the son of Into Mischief to be close from the break beneath Kyle Frey.
Paddy Gallagher’s #3 Muscled (5-2) has raced himself back into shape following the long absence, and the four-year-old gelding owns a win and a second from four lifetime runs on the surface. He will be rallying late with Rispoli retaining the mount.
