Power Plays For Pick 4s & 3s Include Sharp Single-Race Exotics

TwinSpires Harness Blog selected features for mid-February may include some horses that were unable to race due to track cancellations. We continue with our never-ending TwinSpires’ horses-to-watch list (H2W), with suggestions that enhance exotic combinations with their finishes and produce fair win, place and show targeting.
POWER PLAYS
Yonkers / Races 1, 2, 3, 4
Thursday, / Feb. 11
A $1 Pick 4 on the half mile is again our focus to start the weekend. Remember that all of our suggested contenders qualify for the multi- and the single-race exotics as well as win, place and show wagers.
Race 1
Sandys Beach is a beaten favorite taking a slight dip in conditions. She came up short against cheaper but may not have such trouble here. Betterthanbrie comes from a higher level, too, and gets closer to the rail after tanking from post 8 at 24-1. Both are from last week’s cancelled races.
Race 2
Also from last week, Banzai AS, from Anette Lorentzon’s “AS” barn, is as ready as last week, coming off of a strong come-from-behind third finish at this level, having gone off at 10-1. From post 7, Norwegian Dad ships in from the Meadows and is not under the orders of Carmen Auciello at Yonkers, two positives that may give him a class edge to make up for the outside launch.
Race 3
J Rockin B stays put with the conditions and looks to improve from a third finish at 31-1, impressively from post 8. Outside most of the mile, he could fly with a good trip starting from post 3. Tom Fanning’s Ashtini steps up slightly from an easy-trip win here and from the rail can have a similar trip to be with the top finishers if not the top finisher.
Race 4
Seven conditioned pacers with five that have already enjoyed winning once or twice, take each other on to close the Pick-4 stream. Balfast N failed at 2-1 last week from an overland trip. She may fair better not being stuffed leaving from post 2 instead of the rail this week. A perfect trip could be in play as Wishy Washy Girl should fly early from post 7 to try a wire job.
FEATURES~FEATURES~FEATURES
Meadows / Race 6
Friday / Feb. 12
Scott Betts brings Mrs Major Hill into play after qualifying. There seemed little concern than to make the time required to get into this race, a conditioned-claiming pace. The field of 10 will spread the money out, especially since none here has raced more than four times. That makes Mrs Major Hill only a bit fresher but with the edge of some rest. Betts places horses well, so there is no reason to think that the obligatory qualifier finish (sixth) means anything—she is ready. Magic Shore and Hurrikane Lori Ann look well enough to be exotic partners.
POWER PLAYS
Pocono / Races 3, 4, 5
Saturday / Feb. 13
Pocono Downs opens its 2021 season after having to cancel opening its 2021 season with an afternoon program. We offer a Pick-3 stream plus, of course, as all of our suggested contenders qualify for the multi- and the single-race exotics as well as win, place and show wagers.
Race 3
Leg one is a local feature, The Game of Claims, delivers 11 races on the program. The first division is a $25k claimer with a field of seven. The blend of Ohio-based horses and Yonkers stock, with some Pennsylvania and Maryland pacers squeezed in makes this difficult. Texas Terror N, the top class-carrier may be best could be worth it. Miami’s Revelry brings the Maier brood to Pocono and may lead more of its top stock east this meet.
Race 4
The second division of the series’ leg one is a $15k claimer. From the Meadows, be aware of Janaid. He’s a Scott Betts student. Betts sends out strong competitors that produce, and this one comes to the series sans recent tag races and good start in 2021. Bye Bye John has been a popular claim at the Meadows and winds up here for Susan Marshall, whose stock is hitting the board regularly west of the Poconos.
Race 5
The third division of the series’ leg one is a $25k claimer. A trio of dangers lurks. From the outside, Iammrdrightside N brings some class to override the 8 hole. He scratched from beginning 2021 at Yonkers, qualified well at Pocono and will be all out here. Just N Ace will be a bettor’s outsider but has experience at this level at four tracks in six races. Then, ML favorite Mississippi Rabbit looms boldly from tough Yonkers fields for the rugged Gilbert Garcia-Herrera.
H2W Legend
Review our choices and confirm the wagers available at the prescribed track. H2W offers possible contenders researched from reviewing races. Horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track with the date of their race and the race number (R6 ) follows. If a + is in front of a horse’s name, it appears on the list for the second time (horses are listed twice only if, at first, they failed to win. An “ae” signals also-eligible. Types of wagers to make are based on your judgment.
