Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025

Dick Powell handicaps the Thursday card at Presque Isle Downs.
Race One:
1st: (4) DELAYED – beat first-level allowance foes back in July, then was only beaten three lengths after breaking poorly against stakes foes. Daughter of Curlin raced well in her last two starts, including a good second going two turns.
2nd: (7) REIGERT GIRLS – won going two turns on the dirt at Penn, then came here and won going away against this level going 6 1/2 furlongs. She stretches back out to two turns for Brandon Kulp, who wins 25% first start after a win.
3rd: (2) YANKEE DOLLAR – returns off a 130-day layoff for Marcus Vitali, who gets Gallardo for his first start here.
Race Two:
1st: (7) GOING UP – horse for the course ran well in two turf sprints at Colonial Downs, then came back here and beat this optional claiming level in blazing-fast time. Pablo Morales returns – 5 for 10 riding for Ron Potts.
2nd: (2) JOHN DUTTON – was a fast winner two starts back when he went gate to wire, then raced evenly behind the top choice. Scooter Davis wins 34% with his allowance runners and 27% with his synthetic-track starters.
3rd: (5) SPIRITED SOL – winless in seven starts this year here, but he has five seconds against many of these.
Race Three:
1st: (7) TEMPUS – was claimed for $10K two starts back, and he made up 13 lengths to finish a neck behind despite running into traffic. He drops further down in class for Ron Potts, who wins 25% second start off the claim.
2nd: (6) SOUPERSILVERDOLLAR – all four of his starts this year came against better, and the first two were against turf foes. He showed some speed on the dirt in the last two starts and now drops down to bottom claimers.
3rd: (2) ON TAP – was a good third moving up off the claim by Ron Potts, then missed by a length last out.
Race Four:
1st: (6) RUNAWAY BREEZE – runs second more than first, but she looks like she can get to the winner’s circle with a clean, stalking trip. At a decent price, she’s worth a shot with Israel Rodriguez.
2nd: (1) SHORTY MAC – drops down to the bottom for the first time. She used to show decent gate speed, which would come in handy from the rail. Gaddiel Martinez shows a flat-bet profit with his 243 sprint rides this year.
3rd: (2) CLAIRE’S DARLING – showed high speed in a turf sprint three starts back and gets Rojas back.

Race Five:
1st: (10) FADETHENOISE – moves up in class off two straight wins against bottom claimers after switching to Brandon Kulp. His last speed rating shows he can handle these, as speed from the outside has done well in these long sprints.
2nd: (3) CROOKED DREAMS – won his seasonal debut off a long layoff in crazy fast time, then held on for third when moved way up in class. Last out, he rallied for third as the odds-on favorite for Arriagada.
3rd: (4) KOTYLOS – has been up and down the class ladder for Randy Russell and fits with these.
Race Six:
1st: (7) PEARL OF ACLAIM – won his PID debut back in May, then raced mostly on the turf at Penn. He came back here last out with blinkers added and led to the deep stretch. Brandon Kulp wins 29% with his overall claimers.
2nd: (1) ANCHISES – could be the speed from the rail if he can run back to his last race when beaten a head at even-money. He draws the rail and switches to Pablo Morales – 21% with his route mounts.
3rd: (2) ARTEMPUS – went gate to wire two starts back as the odds-on favorite, then tired last out.
Race Seven:
1st: (1) WAR OFFICER – romped in his PID debut, going a two-turn mile in very fast time. He moves up a notch in class but draws the rail and adds blinkers for a long sprint. Linda Rice has won 10 of 28 starts here.
2nd: (3) PEDRO NUNES – son of Nyquist broke his maiden in his career debut, going seven furlongs on a synthetic track in Ireland. He’s had three decent dirt starts in America and makes his PID debut for Jorge Delgado.
3rd: (7) VIRTUOSITY – ran well in his PID debut to begin this year and is training well on the Tapeta at Fair Hill.
Race Eight:
1st: (9) KANAZAWA – won her PID debut two starts back, then showed good speed before weakening. She has good early speed with Willie Martinez returning in the irons.
2nd: (1) RAVEN DANCE – broke her maiden here, then came back to win again. She lost all chance last out when facing this group when she got away last from post one. Todd Beattie wins 26% with his synthetic-track starters.
3rd: (5) KID MATTIE MATT – should be fit in her second start off the layoff for Jorge Delgado – 22% in this spot.
