Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Wednesday, May 21, 2025
Dick Powell analyzes the Tuesday action at Presque Isle Downs.
Race One:
1st: (2) WILD DELIGHT – just missed here two starts back when dropped down to this claiming level then held well for second after disputing the pace. She returns off the long layoff and since she faces the same claiming level, Mike Rogers gets the claim waived.
2nd: (6) FLOAT AWAY – horse for the course rallied to just miss two starts back when dropped down to bottom claimers then weakened last out in a very fast race when moved up to allowance level.
3rd: (4) ROCK N REWARD – ran well here last year against better company but starts off this season dropping in class.
Race Two:
1st: (2) I’M THE CABANA BOY – raced evenly two starts back in fast time against better then chased a fast pace last out. He drops down in class and adds blinkers in an effort to be involved early.
2nd: (7) SHOWDOWN KING – ran well going two turns two races in a row then turned back to a sprint with an even fourth from post 11. He gets his claim waived today for Teresa Connelly, who wins 20% off long layoffs.
3rd: (6) CALYPSO CHARLIE – shows some strong races on the Tapeta last year at Gulfstream Park against similar.
Race Three:
1st: (3) JAZZ TIME GIRL – took her a while to figure things out but she broke her maiden in her 14th career start last year in her first start off a similar layoff. She won going this distance last August and shows a bullet workout to get ready.
2nd: (1) SHE’S GOT RHYTHM – broke her maiden last year against decent company going a two-turn mile here then was the favorite the next three starts. She turns back in distance while getting in light with Brooke Bays.
3rd: (7) STELLARATOR – finished up last season with a close third going two turns against this class level.
Race Four:
1st: (3) WOW WHATA SUMMER – one-dimensional closer missed by a neck on the turf in fast time at Pimlico last week for James Lawrence, who wins 14% going long to short and 13% third start off the layoff.
2nd: (1) SHADOW FACTOR – broke his maiden first time out here then raced evenly in three stakes races. He has prepped well on the dirt at Tampa Bay for this and had a fast workout for this. Ron Potts wins 22% with his synthetic-track starters.
3rd: (6) THORN OF HEARTS – went gate to wire two starts back in a long sprint then raced evenly last out.

Race Five:
1st: (2) HEART – ran well from post 11 two starts back on the Tapeta at Turfway Park then just missed there as the beaten favorite. Daughter of Bolt d’Oro has been working well on the Tapeta at Fair Hill Training Center and gets Antonio Gallardo.
2nd: (6) HEAVEN RULES – won going five furlongs three starts back at Gulfstream then was a good second on the dirt at Tampa Bay. She prepped for this in a turf sprint and now returns to her favorite track for Kevin Rice.
3rd: (4) TRIPLE R RATED – speedball won three in a row here last year and could come out running today.
Race Six:
1st: (3) TATANKA – won his Tapeta debut but did nothing in his next five starts on it. He prepped for this with a good third on dirt at Thistledown and now makes his PID debut for Nestor Rivera, who wins 20% with his synthetic-track starters.
2nd: (5) PILKINGTON – held on for second two starts back then went gate to wire to win by five lengths as the 6-5 favorite. Son of Hard Spun makes his PID debut in his first start off the claim by Susan Anderson.
3rd: (7) BURNIN TURF – rallied from off the pace to just miss as the 2-1 favorite on the turf then raced evenly in a rough trip.
Race Seven:
1st: (7) SPIRITED SOL – returned off a similar layoff to win easily in fast time at long odds last year then ran well the rest of the year. Horse for the course has been off for 243 days for Kim DePasquale, who is 13% in this spot.
2nd: (4) IMPACTO – had a strong winter at Tampa Bay on the dirt where he won four of his last five starts despite moving up in class. He draws well today for Juan Arriagada, who wins 25% second start off the layoff and 21% first start after a win.
3rd: (2) DIAMOND DUST – horse for the course won eight times here & was second six times in 18 starts against similar company.
Race Eight:
1st: (7) DOROTEA DREAM – just missed two starts back with a sudden surge into a slow pace then raced evenly last out. She makes her Tapeta debut for Ralph Baez and needs to find a clear path in the stretch. Israel Rodriguez rides back.
2nd: (8) HAUT LES COEURS – improved some when Lasix and blinkers were added then was a good second when dropped down to this maiden claiming level. She ran her best race last out when blinkers were removed.
3rd: (3) CLARAMENTE – just missed second time out on the Tapeta at Woodbine then went backwards on the dirt at Tampa Bay.
