Dick Powell handicaps the Wednesday card at Presque Isle Downs.
Race 1
1st: (5) THE SINNER IS YOU – horse for the course began this season with a good win, then ran third when moved up in class. He dropped back down to this level and raced evenly in a fast time going this distance.
2nd: (3) SAMURAI LEGACY – held well for second in his first start of the season, then came back and won by a neck as the odds-on favorite. Horse for the course has won 12 times here, and Mike Pappada wins 31% third start off the layoff.
3rd: (2) SANPIRODU – one-dimensional closer did nothing two back going two turns then got up for second here going this distance.
Race 2
1st: (3) LITTLE MARTHA – did nothing here two starts back, going six furlongs in fast time, then came back and showed high speed at two turns. She drops down to $25K claimers for Ron Potts, who wins 21% with his claimers.
2nd: (4) BARTULIIA – had one decent race over the winter at Turfway Park, then came here for his PID debut and showed high speed going two turns with Lasix back on. Son of Creative Cause has the right sire line for here.
3rd: (1) ON TAP – won his Tapeta debut at Turfway Park, then came back here and won his PID debut against similar.
Race 3
1st: (1) GROUNDED – horse for the course was a dominant winner last two starts here. Scooter Davis wins 33% first start after a win and 37% with his allowance runners. Son of Medaglia d'Oro has speed and draws the rail.
2nd: (4) DRUNK ON SAKE – went gate to wire in his first start off the claim by Scooter Davis, then came back and did it again. Claimed for $25K last out by Kathy Demasi, his rider, Gaddiel Martinez, is winless in 42 route rides this year. - 3rd: (2) HE'S A MESS – makes his first start off the claim for a high-percentage claiming outfit and should be much tighter second start off the bench.
Race 4
1st: (7) VENIK – ran better going seven furlongs on the dirt two starts back at Churchill, then came back there and raced evenly on a sloppy track. He drops way down in class while switching to Tapeta for Linda Rice, who wins 32% with this class drop.
3rd: (4) HIGHTAIL FOX – still winless after 10 tries, but many came against better. Off for a while, he was an even third as the 8-5 favorite and is still with Teresa Connelly since the claim was voided.
3rd: (1) SILAS M P – first-time starter by Peace and Justice, who is out of a winning dam that has produced a stakes winner.
Race 5
1st: (6) GOLDEN SODA – rallied for second two starts back here going this distance, then moved up in class and distance last out and was only beaten three lengths. He drops back down in class for Ron Potts, who wins 22% with his synthetic-track starters.
2nd: (2) TRUTH AND HONESTY – was an even third two starts back in his PID debut here against this class level, then came back and ran an improved second. Mike Rogers wins 21% third start off the layoff, and his last 38 show a flat-bet profit.
3rd: (5) LIGHTNING CHARLIE – made his first start of the year here and was a good second, then tired last out in a wide trip.
Race 6
1st: (2) BOHEMIAN STYLE – was a good second here in his Tapeta debut going short then stretched out and rallied for second. He draws much better today for Nestor Rivera, who wins 24% second start off the claim. Had no shot in the Ohio Derby (G3) last out.
2nd: (1) MR. COLOSSAL – broke his maiden two starts back in his second try on Tapeta here. He came back and raced evenly against allowance foes and now drops down in class for Adam Rice, who wins 33% with his overall claimers.
3rd: (6) OUTSIDER – has had two starts this year going short against these and stretches out today for Randy Russell.
Race 7
1st: (6) LA GIRVINA – won two in a row on the turf at Tampa Bay, then shipped here and chased the pace from post nine against allowance foes. She dropped down in class last out and won easily as the 6-5 favorite.
2nd: (7) LINNY KATE – beat this claiming level on the turf at Tampa Bay, then came back here two starts back and won easily. Claimed that day, she moved up a notch in class for Ron Potts, who wins 22% with this move.
3rd: (3) GRACELEADSUSHOME – was off the board six starts in a row but just missed on the turf at Mountaineer last out.
Race 8
1st: (2) I LUCKED OUT – was used hard from post 9 and held on to the final yards. He failed to handle a big move up in class when he set a demanding pace and gets class relief here for Tim Girten, who wins 32% third start off the layoff.
2nd: (3) ENJOY THE MUSIC – horse for the course has 12 wins and 9 seconds in 28 starts here. He just missed in his 2025 debut, then came back and rallied for second after being shuffled back from post one.
3rd: (8) BRUMBA WAFFLE TOES – was a good second two starts back here, then raced even in good time for Ron Potts.
